Got a Quick Question about..If my tranmission is messed up or will be...?
Well as all of you guys know that for many of us that tried to install a shift **** on our Zs, Some had little to no problem and some went through nightmares! Well i was one of the unfortunate ones that went through hell and back...I couldn't get the damn shift **** off so i went to the dealer..the mechanic couldn't get it off(i thought that it was a better chance if i tried because it looked as if i knew way more that him on knowing how to take it off) well after a hour in the dealership..still no luck...so when i went home..thought i give it one more try...finally yes the **** started to spin.....but after like 10 mins of spinning...i found out that the bottom shaft that i was clamping the scond pair of wrench to was also spinning...(even shreded some metal/paint of the shifter shaft)and yes i did follow every step the instructions told me and plus read like 20 threads on problems people will have or had...to make long story short.....i started my car today and when i try to start it...for some reason it took longer than usual to start..like as if i would of turned the key fully and then to half way or something....
1)Did i do anything to the transmission which causes the car to start like that?
2)Is my transmission messed up in anyway or will be in the future?
3)Any comments on this topic will be greatly be appreciated...
Juz a scared Z owner that is thinking of the worst..

Don't worry about it.....
The car VQ35 is know for harder cold starts.... like you were describing. However if it is a problem with re-starting after driving it all warmed up for an hour... and only a couple min break in-between starts... then that might signify a problem.
Also mechanically the transmission doesn't have anything to do with the turn over of the engine... unless your transmission is seriously messed up, which changing the shift **** can't do.
So you should be good to go!

thanks alot....but what i really want to know now is that what i have done in the past to take my shift **** off....(turning the shifter shaft with the ****)
Will this mess up my transmission?
The instructions said that severe transmission damage if you dont hold the bottom linkage tightly to take off the ****.

Yeah, this is a problem. Mine did the same thing, with the top and bottom spinning. I never got it off. I had the dealer replace the shift boot (it was cracked) so they were forced to take it off. It actually looked like I got a new ****, too, so they might have
messed it up trying.
Good luck.

nightmare taking that stock **** off... me and a friend cracked the **** in half. we thought this way it has to come off. that white part is actually rubber and it was hard to grip with a wrench. Also had vice grips (w/ a towel) on the shift rod under the rubber boot to keep it from turning. so since the **** was gone for sure, and i didn't care much for it anyways, we used a phat pipe wrench to grip that sucker and it finally came off after a few cracking noises (got me worried). i'd say it took about 5 full revolutions till it was easy enough to twist off by hand. after all the cracking sounds, my tranny is still ok. all the cracking was probably from the bunch of lock tite they used and the plastic shell under the leather

here's pic of my new one..
