I see about 5 times as many Z's as I see Z06's and maybe an equal amount of Z's and Vettes. I think I may see a few more Z's than Vettes though that may be because I own a Z.

I haven't heard anything on this thread from TT owners. I would be interested in hearing the oppinions of some of the TT Texans with 400+rwhp!

I will be looking into the next Z06, but probably not for another 3 years.

At that point my Z should have over 100K miles and I'll be ready for something new. Hopefully the Z06 will be less than 60K, or maybe there will be some leased ones coming back on the market.

I'm really looking forward to that car. Plus, maybe the GT-R will be out. I'm not holding out much for the Supra, because Toyota tends to make even their sports cars pretty sloppy handlers (well, except for the MR2). The Supra though was never as crisp as some of the other cars around in its time. In any case, the next several years look to be pretty great for sports cars.

Z06 Production Numbers
2001 - 5773
2002 – 8297
2003 – 8635

I don't have the production for the G35C and/or 350Z, but I bet in the 2 years it's been out, there are more of these. It certainly seems that way when I drive around town.

One more thing, who said you can't mod up a Z06 when you get it? If you do the same simple intake/exhaust mods (another $3,000?) on a Z06, and suspension upgrades? - tell me you can touch that with a daily-driver reliable Z33.

Did anyone read the latest Sports Car International magazine where they had some race driver test a Z06, Porsche GT3 and EVO VII RS back-to-back at Infineon (Sears Point)? I thought it was common knowledge that a Lancer EVO VIII is about 1-2 seconds a lap faster than a Z33. Well, the Lancer (professionally driven, no less) was 5 seconds slower than the Z06. Interestingly, it was 8 seconds slower than the GT3.

You pays yer money, as they say...

A point not touched on yet is the Z's toy factor. You know that feeling you get when you look in the window of a mint old MG? All those really small gauges and tiny seats. The Z gives me more of that 'toy' feeling than any american car ever has. That's where it is for me.

I had the opportunity to drive a 2001 Z06 and I can honestly say that I was tempted to buy it. The '01' was only rated at 385 but this one had corsa exhaust and CAI and it was a freakin brute, I could not even jump on it in 2nd without loosing the rear end. We took it down hwy 183 and got up to 158 mph and it pulled like a train. The only problem is unless you are a sportscar fan you can't tell the Z06 from the regular C5, I like the attention I get from my Z and when I drove the Vette nobody cared, everybody here in LR owns one. Just my opinion.

Am I the only one that thinks the Z06 looks fabulous on paper but ugly in real life? For whatever reason I just cannot get excited about the looks of the rear of the Corvette.

Well, reality check time for me.
I went and sat in a 390 HP 390 TQ Cobra today and it was small and felt cheap and cheasy and left. Then I went and looked and a flame red 2001 Z06 with 8k miles for 39k I found out that the very next year they upped the HP to 405 so the badging on the 02's and greater say Z06 405 on the side so of course why buy an 01 when you get 20 more horses with the next year model?
So I drove a 2002 for 43k and I have to be honest it's only 405 at the crank I think, my car would walk it in the 1/4 I am making more to the wheels so then the guy tells me that you can get pretty much any deal you want on 01' through 04's you want right now because the 500HP Z06's come in in August, lots of them. That is only 5 months away folks but there will be a mark up like I paid on a Z. I am not falling for that again. So if you want a Z06 get an 02 or better and with no down expect to pay 700 a month if you break even on your Z. At 4 % it was almost 17 dollars per 1000 plus tax and license so figure 17k 50k when you can get almost a hundred more HP in 5 months, it was how I spent my day. To make me feel better I smoked anything that even looked like it challenged me while I went for a long drive, I like my car again after seeing the stickers and thinking about V8 insurance. I'm cool with my Z for awhile haha like I said, reality check.

$17.00 X 50,000.00 = $750.00 Plus tax and license and insurance is how the numbers came out and that is at 4 %!

Or you could get the 2001 with "only" 385 HP and like the poster said above get some cams, exhaust and other straightforward mods for aroudn 3K and have 450+ with that great NA V8 power delivery and massive low-down torque.

They are a great deal, especially used. Too bad the interior is sooo "Detroit Plastic Fantastic".

The 2001 Z06 was nice but not $680.00 a month plus tax license and INSURANCE nice for a used car. Better things will always be right around the corner and I could take that 385 to the crank with my 9PSI in the 1/4 already and the TC I want is only 400 bucks and I have a great interior, leather, NAV, DVD, HID, and the great dash cluster.
It was convincing enough for me to just go drive one. Keep in mind the 2005 C6 will be 60k after mark-up for a two seater.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's "only" the standard vette that will be out in August, and the Z06 will be following in 2005 as a 2006 model.

Just gives me more time to save up some cash (and I'll not be buying a first year car again).

Well, I do know one thing, since I have a Z, so I would rather have the ZTT. Least I won't have to go through a dealership or something and lose money on a trade in cause I just bought the car. Seems like all you guys want from the vette is the engine anyway, I know I would take every other aspect of the Z over the vette, except of course the HP of the vette.

In my opinion a TT Z with about 400whp vs. a stock '02+ Z06 would be about even in terms of "bang for the buck". It depends on what you're looking for. I'd think the Z06 would probably be more reliable in the long run, but the interior is far from even being decent, not to mention the insurance and monthly payments (yikes). The styling has also gotten pretty bland.

When they first introduced the C5 several years ago, it looked fantastic. Since then their look, including the Z06 with it's "Z06 405 HP" fender badges (whooptie-doo) and different rims has become dated. When I see one I'm barely even amazed at their styling anymore.

Also, the gadgets the 350Z has (maybe even in a base model) are more plentiful than in the Z06. The 350Z also has better build quality and looks much nicer IMO. The Z isn't a head turner, but a neck breaker. I'm sure a TT Z tuned as nicely as Skidazzle's or so will beat a Z06 in the straights.

Personally, I'm not a hardcore tuner looking to go stupid fast. My Z is fast enough for me, plus I'm also concerned about other aspects besides performance. I'll keep my Z.
