350Z TT or new Vette Z06?
Hi,
I have an '03 JB 350Z (MT) that I absolutely love, but to be honest, I've always wanted a Vette ever since my teens (that's a moderately long time ago. Well. last year when we bought the Z it was for my wife, I was still holding out for the new Z06. Well, later that year car fever bit again and we ended up buying her a big-*** bimmer, and I inherited her Z.
Reading about all the TT upgrades here now has me drooling for more power as well. Question is, does it make sense to spend another $15 or so for the TT upgrade and its associated performance mods, and the body kit, wing, wheels etc to go with that, or just wait for the new Z06 for the real thing in terms of performance (let's face it, even a TT Z will get eaten for breakfast by a current Z06, at least in straight-line acceleration). The new Z06 is supposedly going to have 500hp and sub 4sec 0-60 time.
Looks-wise, I kind of prefer a tastefully modded Z over the new Vette design, but I could live with either one.
For those of you who took the plunge, is it for the fun of doing it or to get the fastest car possible?
Frank

Tough one here. I'm a Ford guy by heart, but my 03 Cobra had to many problems and hense the switch to the Z. To me the Z is a better built car and for my size it fits me perfectly. The only advantage the Cobra had is power, so far I have not missed it( it was also modified and made over 550 hp).
Now your situation is a bit different because the Z06 will have alot of the features a Z will, like good breaks, handling and a low center of gravity. I'm not a Vette fan but this will be a awesome car with Viper like acceleration at a cheaper price. This car will be reliable and will not have the headaches of forced induction(I still love it though).
That being said I love forced induction and the Z with twin turbos has got to be fun. You'll get the added power the Z needs and all the fine points the Z already has. Unfortuantely it will not always be as reliable as the vette without forced induction as there are always little issues that will creep up on you with forced induction.
Tough call but I'd take the Z06 (actually I wouldn't because I don't like chevys). It will be a beast ,you'll get good gas mileage and the reliability of NA power.
Dang I can't believe I told someone to buy a Vette.
Thanks Mike

personally i think if you tune the TT right it is possible to have about 700 wrhp to the 350z. That is alot more hp than the Z06 so i think with the right tuning, ther is no way a 350Z TT would lose to a Z06. So i would rather go with the TT. Then you can save some gas vs. the V8, and can be Very fast if you want to. My .02

700 HP on a Z?! Not unless you have a flux capacitor. Pinch yourself and wake up. Either that, or come back to earth sir. Take it from a Greddy TT owner, 700 HP ain't happening......ever.
As far as the original question, get the Z06.

What are you talking about? Seriously man. And just for your info, the new Corvette is supposed to get 30-something mpgs on the highway. Tough to beat that with any sports car.

I have to say get a Z06. A TT Z would be a lot of fun, but at the same time a fair bit of anxiety also. I don't think anybody can say that even a well tuned aftermarket turbo kit, especially if you turn up the boost, is going to have the longevity of an OEM car.
A Z06 is essentially plug and play, a TT Z would require parts, installation, tuning, more parts.....etc. If you're interested in the whole process, that's okay, but otherwise, I don't think I'd be interested.

I would say wait the 2 or 3 years for the new Z06 replacment. Im willing to bet its not going to be a sub 60k car when it first rolls out though. The Z06 replacment will have parts the regular C6 wont have like a dry sump and hydro formed aluminum rails. Going aftermarket FI on an NA car is best left to gearheads and enthusiasts.

personally....looks and interior average...nothing to spectacular.
the z looks better in my opinion...
peformance is obviously great if not amazing.
depends on what you want...i'd get a older viper instead...then again the interior is horrendous!
hmm...this is tough. is there any other car in that price range?...or will the vette be the best.
why don't you save yourself some money and by a muscle car or that datsun z with a chevy block on ebay oooooh it looks nice!~.
I guess i'd rather have something that not many people have and a unique look to it as well.
that's why i got the z(looks, performance, etc) ...but now...it seems the z(california) is taking over the world..lol

Can't believe how many people are recommending the Vette, lol. Well, if you plan on spending $60K on a Vette or a Z, the purchase is obvious in finacial terms. The unmodded Vette will be worth more cause it hasn't been modded as much, and hasn't been "hot rodded" like the Z. You do have to take into account the probable greater depreciation of the Vette, but even so, the mods on the Z will not be worth as much on a used car.
I am a sports car person, but not a real big fan of the vette. If I were spending vette money, it probably wouldn't be on a vette, probably something more exotic. But to each is own. Give me the choice between a Z maxxed out in mods(TT, wheels, brakes, suspension, and such) and a Vette, and I probably choose neither, lol. Give me a Lotus with a few miles or something.

2 weeks ago I went looking for a used Vette and ended up at Kerbeck Corvette in Atlantic City,NJ. They were deeply discounting the 2004's and I drove off with a new Commemorative Edition,Le mans Blue, automatic, removable acrylic roof panel,5.7 350 Hp,polished wheels for a little over $40K. It is faster and better riding than my Z but has a more touring feel than the Z.The Z06 were also discounted but it's too much of a beast for my taste.BTW,I kept my Z.I love it too much.
