Default Racing All Those 4 Banger Hondas

Whenever we do a mod to our Z and take it for a test drive, we lick our chops when we see mustangs, vettes, porsches etc.....
We want to see how our cars stack up against theirs so we pray we both catch the red light together for a little light to light action. If we win were happy if we lose we say we have a 6 and they have an 8.

Same with the honda boys (i been there done that) back in 91( I was only 21 then) We would never take our 72 corollas and celicas and datsun 510s to the newly honda crowd, Instead we would go find the V8 Gun rack crowd. Our slowest car was a 13.2 our fastest was a 11.8 this was fast for back then. Remeber all 4 bangers

Im just getting started. Now I do admit 13 years later it is getting out of a hand(honda civics etc) But these kids a passionate about their cars just as I was then, its true more then 50% of these cars are just big tips and lots of noise. If one pulls up on me I do get caught up........and I tell myself I will never do that again, I dont do it all the time the cause the law of averages will eventually catch up with you. But I praise these kids for their passion, So when one wants to race you thats you decision. But take it as a compliment......Its hard not to get caught up in a race. 4 bangers have come a long way.......but I respect those little rockets.

Now that im 34 I will be taking my son to the 1/8 mile drags at the qualcomm stadium. I used to street race but not any more. I dont want to be one of those (do as I say not as I do parents). So Hopefully junior will learn how to do it right.(legally)

To all you 4 bangers...........I aint mad at ya..............

Do you ever take your Z out to Qualcomm? And how often??

I'd love to see some Z's zip down the Qualcomm track!

I fail to understand how the above makes sense. Granted, you didn't put those two phrases right next to each other, but they still exist in the same point. I have no respect for "fake power". I do respect those that work on their cars to make them better and faster, regardless of what car it is. However, I cannot respect those that fake it all the way.

There is this guy near where I work named "Suburu John". He has a WRX in blue that is done up to almost perfectly match the world ralley cars. Same wing and decals. Looks pretty sweet. However, when I was at the dyno shop the other day, the shop workers were talking about him. Now, I have never met "John", but I have heard of him before. He has put nothing of use into his car. It is all looks. Sure, he has a 1000 hp clutch, but he is running a basically stock engine. To make matter worse, he has no mechanical sense. He has blown 3 trannies and now has no third gear. He bought an IHI turbo the other day, but has no clue what to do with it. I cannot respect a man like that. He fakes that he knows what he is talking about. However, he really knows so little that he is destroying his car slowly. Now, if he just didn't know anything, than fine. However, he pretends he knows it all. Really just a shame.

So, to those that put honest work into your cars, I salute you. However, those that fake can eat my dust.

I guess what bigern is trying to say is he respects the general love for automobiles regardless of the big gains and speed.
Not everyone has the funds and means to build a fast car.

I don't really respect a car that looks fast and goes slow but I can respect the dedication and passion put into these cars, out of pure love and enthusiasm for them.

The problem is today you can buy any tacky add on you want very easily, tail lights, tips, fart cans, goofy chrome trim.....I've seen this crap at grocery stores.

Back in 91 it wasn't like that.

There wasn't this "Image" (I'm not talking about cool, I'm talking about F&F image) associated with the cars like now that make people rice out a civic (And I'm not talking about a true respectable show car). The guys who were into cars then were into cars, and making them run.

I see to many people (even with Z's) trying to "tack on" things to make the car look different, Just for the sake of it, doesn’t matter if it looks better or detracts from the lines of the car.

It is really hard for me to see any relationship in the "major" movement then and the "major" movement now. It like it's been fully commercialized, like how main stream ruins the soul of something.

Tacky add ons were laughed at....That's the guy that you'd tell that he needs muffler bearings if he wanted to really get power, or that you thought his firewall gasket was leaking.

At least thats my perspective................Maybe I'm way off..I don't know....

LOL!...Yup! I had a 240Z at that time.

I remember a good friend of mines dad raced a 240Z in SCCA IT class.
I remeber drooling over a super sweet tri mikuni set up that he was going to use for a 240 he was building up for GT class.

Those Datsuns were alot of fun!
