Default Running Lean

Hey guys.

I purchased my car about 5 months ago and after my first oil change my car started making a funky little noise while it was idling. I ignored this because I figured I was just being paranoid. Last month I installed intake and exhaust and the problem was still there. I got a little worried so I toom my car to the dealer.

They said that my car is running lean because of the intake and exhaust. I have to remove that **** before they will start to work on my car. The guy said there was nothing they could do for me unless I took it all off...no adjustments could be made. And I said if I took the stuff off would you be able to adjust it and he said probably not. WTF is that all about? There has to be a way to tune this ****!! It was running lean before the little additions I made.

They said if I took it somewhere to have it adjusted that I would void my warranty.

What the hell should I do?

I really don't feel like having my exhaust removed and then installed again...I hear there is a risk that the car might run lean once the exhaust and intake are reinstalled. This is ********!!

The ECU will adjust to those mods. High- flow Cats will make you run somewhat lean in the mid RPM range although.

The dealer just blamed the intake/exhaust because they had the ability too. It's a pretty common misconception that can easily be cleared up if you take your car to a dyno that has an a/f meter and check it that way. Regardless, an intake/exhaust combo won't make the car run lean.. stock cars run pretty rich to begin with. Not to mention reputable companies like Borla, Stillen etc wouldn't sell parts willingly knowing you can risk leaning out and/or blowing up an engine. It also depends on their definition of lean. They think a stock Z will go from 12:1 to 15:1 with two mods? Yeah right.
