Default Stripped..now what !

While putting on my left front tire, I notice that the thred was stripped and I was not able to put the lug nut on. Is it safe to drive with only 4 out of 5 lug nut or is this something I need to get it fixed ASAP.

And if I have to get it fixed, how much would it cost me ? Thanks guys

who touched it last. If it was the dealer they should replace the rim it is no fun driving around with 4 lugs your wheel could be placed uneven;y on the rotor hub and this could cause your steering wheel to shake or your alignment to e bad and cause potential safety problems. i have no idea if it can be fixed i think it is all one piece rethreading would require a different luf nut and no one ever has done it that i know of. just ask for new rims. some guy must have had too much fun with your car and his impact wrench.

i don't know what's involved in fixing it, but i DEFINITELY wouldn't feel comfortable on only 4 lugs. too much at stake if **** goes bad. how do all the other lugs look? and like adanande said, who worked on it last?

I was the last person to take the wheel off. I took it off so that I could install the Stillen Race Pipe. After I was done and trying to put the wheel back on, I noticed that one of the lug nut wouldnt tighten. I took the lug nut out and examined the threads on both the lug nut and the thread, it was gone. Now I am left with only 4 lug nut. I am aftraid I am gonna have to pay up the a$$ just to get this one thing fixed. Do you know how they would go about fixing this ?

it's not really that dangerous, but it's certainly something that you would want to get fixed ... plenty of cars only come in 4 lug patterns.

i stipped one of my lug studs before while putting on the lug nut.
when i went to remove the lug nut it wouldnt come off, and i was thinking to myself wtf i take it over to my friends shop and we check it out, stripped stud! so after about an hour of prying, cutting, and yanking, we got the lug nut off. removed the caliper, rotor, hub, pulled the bad stud and replaced it. i think it was like 10$? for the lug stud from nissan.

you'll be fine - ther will not be any balance issues whatsoever

but it is something you should get taken care of

It is not any big deal to do - any good tire placwe should have the right thread/pitch/length stud, then just get a new lug and you are good to go

go to napa, get a new stud. they wont have it listed, but its the same as 90-96 maxima. take wheel off, bang the old one out with a hammer, and put the new one in from behind. tighten it with the lugnut and a few washers, (preferably with an air-wrench) and you will be fine. I have replaced about 5 of mine. I had some crappy lugnuts that stripped for some reason. they went on fine, but broke off on removal. maybe its all the changing and heat cycles from autocross and track days.

It may seem difficult but it is a pretty simply job. The only pain in the a$$ is getting the old bolt out.... Take wheel off, then take off the caliper and rotor. The dust shield on the back will look like it has a piece missing. Rotate the hub until the stripped bolt is behind the part of the bust shield that looks missing. Then start hammering the old bolt out. I used a hammer and a screw driver. Place new one in and tighten with the lug nut. Make sure you don't over tighten or you can use some washers. Then put everything back together.
