Question Need quick help from anyone who's installed their own UR pulley.

Going to install tomorrow; just want to make sure I have everything I need before I incapacitate my car. I was looking over the removal procedure in the manual and it says to use a crank pulley puller tool (claw-like thing that pulls pulley off crank when ratcheted). Do I need this, or does the stock pulley come off the crank fairly easily? I don't recall reading anything about it in previous threads. Anything else I should know before I begin? Thanks a bunch.

I just used a breaker bar very carefully from top to bottom and didnt have a problem. It was tight but came off no problem.

You may need a chain wrench (it might be the same thing you are referring to) to hold the pulley itself while you try to take the pulley bolt off. With an MT, you just put the car in 6th and stand on the brakes. When I tried to do my bud's AT coupe, the pulley would not stop rotating while I was trying to remove the pulley bolt whether it was in drive, neutral or park, with or without the brake fully engaged.

Another way to do it would be to get a breaker bar long enough to reach the ground, hook it up to the bolt and turnover the engine.

Get a breaker bar, put it on the crank bolt and set it on the ground. Then flip your ignition on, and the motors own TQ will break it loose. I used this method, its painless.....

What exactly do you mean by this?

I have another method of immobilizing the crank to break the bolt loose; that's not what I'm asking. This is in regard to actually pulling the pulley off the end of the crankshaft. The manual indicates that it is on there very tight and requires a tool to pull the pulley off once the bolt is removed. I'm just wondering if it's really on there that tight and if I should try to borrow this tool from an auto parts store or if I can get it off without.

Default No extra tools req.

I put the UR pulley on myself without any special tools. The breaker bar is for getting the bolt off. It's got over 80lbs of torque applied by the factory.

PS-I also pulled the fan shroud up and out of the way to get more room. It wasn't possible to pull it out from below like the instructions indicated.

Enjoy!!

Once you get the bolt off, you just slide the pulley off. You won't need any special tools at all. Just make sure you have some good automotive grease to lube up the new pulley.

if you cant get it off with the breaker bar you can have someone hold the breaker bar still and then turn the car over, the torque from the starter will easily break it free
