Default Performance questions

I like to drive corners etc.. more then say 1/4 mile runs..
Im not concerned with living my life 12sec at a time.

I was wondering, I want to keep my Warranty, so can I just get say a supercharger(nismo) and CAI (nismo) and be happy with Price/Performance, or do I need to spend alot of $$ to get better performance?

Not sure what direction I should go. I heard lighten the flywheel etc..

I am still single but I dont want to put every dime I have into the car, I still have payments ya know :P

what direction should I go for more HP ..

I want to leave everything I can stock and just upgrade the HP..

There are really no performance parts that will not affect your warranty from Nissan or at least pose a possible issue with a dealer. One way to go would be the Stillen Supercharged and purchase their warranty package. The Stillen provides good gains throughout the rpm range, but does require hood modifications.

Well....Your last statement is an absolute contradiction in reality. How can you leave everything stock and expect more hp. Firstly, to realize any measureable performance gain, you will need 25-30 hp. To do this with normally aspirated mods, you will need to invest several thousand $$$, at least.

Now....you also said you wanted to add a Nismo supercharger. Well, I would love to add one too. Only problem is that Nismo doesn't make one.

And....A supercharger is almost as far from stock as you can get with the exception of a turbo.

I think you either need to rephrase your question, or figure out what it is you really want, so we can give you the proper advice.

How much more power do you want? How much money can you spend? How much time do you want to spend tuning your car? Are you willing/able to sacrifice reliability for performance? There will be trade-offs everywhere.

Think about it, then repost with the proper questions.

I want to leave everything I can stock and just upgrade the HP..

meaning I am not after replacing the wheels, tires, paintjob, windows, bodykits, interior, cutting the hood open to retro fit.

I have read there are super chargers that fit, but doing so would void my waranty, I can hold off.

meaning I could do a Turbo, but I hear turbo cause lagg and and other issues when they spool up, bad for mountain driving good for 1/4 mile, is this true? is there anyone that knows?.

Money 5-7K
I may even wait to see if the 2005 models are more HP and do a trade-in.

For 7k, you could barely get away with a Supercharger install, but as you said, it would completely void your engine and drivetrain warranty. Also, at this overall power level, in order to manage the power properly, you will need, at the least, an upgraded clutch and wider wheels/tires. Therefore, I would not recommend this. Turbos are even more expensive.

Here's what I would do with that $$$:

wheels/tires....245's front and 275's rear on LIGHT 18" or 19" wheels

Crawford Plenum, headers, hi-flow cats

Nismo or Air Power Systems Exhaust

Insulate the STOCK intake tube with HeatShield wrap and use a Nismo sport filter

ECU reflash by Technosquare

This should just about chew up your $7000.

if you like to drive corner, shouldn't you spend most of your money on suspension system rather than increased the power of your car???

It seem like you focus more on engine modifications.

s/c 4700 shipped +1000 install, and 500 tuning= ~6200

turbo 5600 shipped +1500 install and 500 tuning=~7600

then add in gauges, clutch, tires, exh, fuel, etc and things start getting expensive.

For $7000 you could still go Stillen SC with their warranty, then get some sways, springs and a tire upgrade. This would give you a lot of both, but as mentioned the Stillen requires a hood modification which some people just do not want. If you go N/A you are talking high dollars for not nearly as much gain. Plus if you are not mechanically inclined, all the N/A mod installs can start to add up in labor fees.

"Insulate the STOCK intake tube with HeatShield wrap and use a Nismo sport filter"

Would it be possible to explain your quote further? Is this a HeatShield you manufactured or is it available for purchase?

Appreciate It!

Hey, dude, suspension mods will give you faster curves. Also, lose weight up front (battery?) and in the middle (seats?). Leave engine alone, with exception of intake, exhaust, and perhaps plenum. Get lightweight wheels and good tires.

[EDIT] Oh, better brakes, if you can afford. Can get to curve faster.

MHO.

Cheers.

There is no NA intake system that makes any meaningful horsepower on this motor more than any other. Some may cause you to lose power. The stock set-up is well designed from the start. A slightly less restrictive filter, and insulating the intake tract will do just as well as anything and will be more likely to give a few extra hp. You can buy the Nismo sport filter anywhere that sells Nismo. It is an S-tune part, and simply replaces the stock filter in the stock air-box. "Heatshield Products" is a company that makes all sorts of automotive insulating products. They make a special kit designed to wrap intake tubing. I ordered online from Mataray Motorsport racing at www.mmrusa.com. Look under the section "cooling" in the scroll-down menu on the left of the page.
