Default Overheating Problem

Well this is probably the result of what the stereo shop did. Here is the link.

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=80971

They basically drilled into one of the aluminum heater core lines and patched the holes with some type of weld (not sure what)

Anyway, on my drive home today, my temperature starts raising almost to the point of being at the "H" mark. I also have no heat.

The cooling fan stayed on the entire 8 miles while coming home.

Luckily I made it home and parked it.

The stereo shop said it was because I had a bubble in the system and it wasn't circulating properly.

This is what I think. I think they welded the line shut so no coolant could circulate.

Also, the coolant resorvoir was a little low but not empty.

Anyone care to offer suggestions?

BTW, I have an 1130 appt at the dealer to look into this overheating problem. The stereo shop is going to have to foot the bill, since I have a signed agreement stating they did the damage. I also think I am going to have the dealer replace the welded line and pressure test the entire system. Thoughts?

i just read everything that happened and I feel really bad. Regarding the carpet the coolant will and cause some kind of stain and hard deposits on there like the stuff around the coolant resovoir. I would have them replace the carpet cause it can cause your floor board to rust if there are any scratches through the primer. GL with everything

The car is a pain to get all the air out. There is a bleeder valve on the water line that run between the plenum and firewall. It is on the right (passenger) side. It has taken me up to 20-35 min of babysitting the whole process to get it back to normal whenever I drain the coolant.

Well I just got back from the dealer.

The reason the guage was on "H" was because there was no FLIPPIN coolant in the radiator.

Luckily, it had just enought to get to the dealer.

The dealer replaced the coolant, and they are replacing the heater core and lines. Apparently the stereo shop welded the lines with J Weld, whatever that means. The dealer said it will not hold, so they are repalcing my heater core and lines.

Also the stereo shop never replaced my foam underneath it is full of coolant.

So they are repalcing the foam and the carpet.Hopefully I can get all this done before Tuesday, since I am going out of town.

The shop probably used JB Weld or something like that. Its 2 tubes of stuff that, if Im not mistaken, will harden when both are mixed. Sorry to hear this.

Yeah they used JB weld,

Well the dealer ordered a new heater core with all the lines today. Drive -In footed the bill. They will be installing it tomorrow.

Saturday, Drive in is taking my seats out and removing my carpet to be professionaly cleaned.

Then I will inspect the foam underneath the carpet and determine what needs to be replaced.

I am happy that Drive In is doing what I want done. I am meeting them half way though, I could be a ***** and make them replace the carpet.

BTW, the dealer wants $500 for the interior carpet,

Well I got my car back from the dealer, took the technician almost 8 hours to remove the heater core and replace it.

My dash was literally taken apart. The strut brace inside the dash even had to be removed.

It cost Drive In Auto Sound $800 and that was a dealer to business price.

Could you imagine how much it woulda cost me if I woulda done the damage!

Anyway, the carpet is next, the whole drivers side foam padding is still wet from the antifreeze.

I don't think they can clean it but I will give them a chance, if not, they are replacing the entire carpet, which is $500

sucks for the shop. atleast it sounds like your getting good as new, no JB weld. though that stuff is very strong and I wouldnt really be angry they tried to use it. that stuff is a form of epoxy and is solid as a rock for metal repairs. still, brand new never been damaged is preferable.

Yeah overall I am happy, however, this has cost me a lot of time and $ taking my car, going back and forth, waiting, and more waiting.

I probably spent over 30 hours of going places, calling people, and driving across town repeatedly.

Just be careful out there folks with where you are drilling screws, ect.

That heater core is probaly the hardest piece to take out and re-install.

I hope it never goes out on me.
