Default 3.9 Final Drive Ratio is here !!!

My 350EVO 3.9 final drive ratio (ring & pinion) is arriving tomorrow (Aug. 19) and is being installed Aug. 20, just in time for my day at the Buttonwillow Raceway performance driving clinic on Aug. 21. Will post a review next week.

Im very interested in reading your review! Im also interested to know how it affects your gas mileage. This should be one of the best bang for your buck mods available.

Mine is on the way as well. Finally!!! WoOt!!

Richard - Now you need some race seats and a harness bar. Check out the BCR harness bar being sold by member Enthuz.

x350Zx - This is the manual transmission version only. I think what auto guy's can do is get the factory gear out of a manual trans car. Someone who is getting rid of their 3.5 gear.

I'm jealous... I have to wait a few more day until 350Evo is able to assemble an entire rear end package for me... Guess I'll just have to read somebody's review before I get to experience it myself. In September I'll have a track review on this product though...

WARNING!!!!!!
To properly season in ring and pinion you need to drive very easy for 500 miles to work harden and set a wear pattern. Failure to do this will result in premature wear or a broken gear set. I would wait til after the track day. Check with people like Richmond Gear if you don't believe me. There is a break-in procedure! I have seen this first hand in Toyota and Ford 9inch rearend from the 4X4 wheeling clubs.

BJ will have to chime in about the manufacturing process, but the ring and pinion has already been heat-treated to harden the composite.

Wow, I always thought that first gear was pretty short, but this is going to make it even worse (better? ). I wonder how its going to effect first gear for everyday driving. A friend of mine put 4.56's in his dakota, and his first has become pretty much useless. He uses it for burn outs mostly and uses 2nd gear to launch. Pretty crazy if you ask me.

It doesnt make first gear useless.

We will be putting complete rear ends together whichcan include a Nismo LSD.

If anyone doing this would like to sell their 5AT gears to me I would like to buy them. I am looking to go down in gear ratio. PM me if you are interested. Thanks.

I can't wait to see what happens when someone installs this and puts in some quartermile time. Especially someone with the mods that Egbert Souse has.

Will you be our first N/A 12 sec Z?

i am strongly considering getting the 3.9... the car would really really move with the power its got, but man traction is already an issue in first and second

That post about a 500 mile break in period is a little disconcerting. I better call BJ in the morning before the install starts.

I got the parts (ring, pinion, shim and bolts) today. They look very nicely machined.

I think this mod is gonna be a hoot!!!

It lowers the gearing in all 6 gears of your 6MT, so that you get about 10% faster acceleration in every gear. The downside is that it lowers your top speed. Actually that doesn't matter unless you have removed the 156 speed governor like I have. The car with the stock ring & pinion is capable of about 180 mph. Top speed with the 3.9 final drive will be "only" about 165 mph. Who cares? I have never had mine above 150 mph. Yours is governed at 156 mph.
