Default 2003 vs. 2004 ECU

So what's the big difference betwen 2003 and 2004 350Z ECUs?? The HP Rating is the same right?

Which takes better to the mod out there right now - assuming no piggyback or reflashing??

I could be wrong, but aren't the ECUs the exact same?

I believe the 2003 and 2004 are the same, however the 2004.5 is different (ULEV) engine. TSU just figured out the 2004.5 ECU and are now developing a flash for it.

actually they are all different....the 03 and early 04 have similar coding, though the fuel tables are different (at least according to what datalogs showed me back when my car was stock). The later 04's use totally different coding altogether.

Neither is better to mod IMHO....they just need different tuning, which is another reason why its best to do it on your specific car.

I'd have to go back through my notes.......I forget which ran richer overall, the 03 or 04's.....

I'm not getting into Technosquare's business - I just wanted to get a 20 words or less layman's description of where Nissan as going with the ECU - perhaps '03 was a bit conservative given the first year back, and '04 had less room to tune

Stuff like that....

04.5 Larger Memory allocation for stricter emission control programming. technically more difficult to crack, simply due to much larger amount of code to break, but eventually the codes will be figured out... it will just take time. not necessarily less room to tune, but harder to pin-point exactly where to tune.

early 04 similar to 03 model year ECUs. Trend was moving to a slightly less restrictive ecu/more responsive later on in the production build, could possibly be due to slight variations in plenum design from the factory.

Late 02/early 03 had some software issues, with maximum g loads messing up some sensors, fixed with the newer early 03 ecu updates...

sorry , not really 20 words or less...

There's been quite a few Dynos showing some gains with the reflash; however, it's not a big jump, even when complimented with I/H/E. The benefit lies in the overall responsiveness and driveability of the Z with this mod, as well as adaptibility of future mods.
