How many people even knew what a grounding system was before reading this thread? I sure as hell didn't. If a car came with one from the factory, I'd be like "whatever".

Fortunately, they don't ask any specific questions.

Looks nice. One question, do you tin/solder the wire ends before you crimp them?

i asked about soldering the wires, and he said it would be $30 extra. this is due to the fact he solders after crimped, so it cant back out. he drills a hole through the hard solid copper, and fills it in.
also, he said if you want a kit wire-loomed, it is $20 extra. you could buy the loom seperate and install it on the wire yourself for $10.

I do have to say I've never heard Copper called hard before... Steel = Hard, Copper = Soft. I've drilled through 4" thick steel before, copper is like going through butter.
Does the wire from the battery connect to the point located at the front of the engine or at the point by left header? Based upon that response then the ground to the frame would be connected to the opposite point. Also does it even really matter?
Thanks
Thanks
Blue Wires are great!! Looks really good.
Just an additional note, If you can, TIG weld the lugs to the copper cables so your connection will be IRON CLAD. keep the amperage low so you dont vaporize the copper.
I made cables for a living years ago and we would always weld the connectors on.

Monster should be available at HIFI Buys. S4B-125 is blue 4 ga power wire S4S-125 would be silver "ground". Electricity is pretty much color blind. there may be other colors available but not sure.

. I paypaled him for my kit and hopefully will be getting them sometime next week
.
Does anyone here read Import tuner? If not, go spend the $3.95 and pick up Decembers, it has a whole article on grouding kits and how they DO ACTUALLY work, they have dyno numbers from 4-5 different cars. The gains were anywhere from +.8-15.3hp
Hows that for proof?

I have yet to build a set for my car but I will as soon as I get to a Monster dealer.
Electricity is a very wierd beast. My Uncle, an electrical engineer, would swear a paper clip could effectively ground an entire engine system. This may be true under ideal conditions.
I have seen posts about flashlights and extra grounds not making the light brighter-- BS-- put alittle of that corrosion crud on the contact and see what happens to the light. then add a new ground-- hmmm see the difference? try it. Ever have a 20 year old volkswagen with a slow starter? check that longggggg wire from the switch to the starter solenoid-- It has high resistance. Ever have a car that mysteriously lost power after driving for an hour on the freeway?-- check the coil it has high resistance when hot. Not to say that Nissans ground is corroded or will corrode, but that resistance does make a difference in electrical performance- period- that should not be debated at all. Electrons travel at about 100 micrometres per second. Considering that all engine components must be syncronized from the battery/alt through the computer commands to ground, then it makes tremendous sense that the more and better grounds, the better the synchronization would be. i.e. smoother running, better throttle response and an incease in peak power(slightly). Remember, almost all Pos. connections have a dedicated feed but most Neg. connections go common somewhere in the system.
Think it through some more, imagine more electrical situations and I am sure you will see the electricity behaves very differently in different types of circuits. And yes, Using a high grade of very pure copper speaker wire sounds better than a 3 dollar roll of crap from the shack. <---IMHO

Some discussion concerning Nissan would install the grounding kit if it only cost a couple of bucks per car and it worked:
The sad truth is they do cut corners like that as all manufactures do. I tour the Nissan design center every year and about 3 years ago, a designer there told me they cut a really attractive headlight design that all of the people on our tour loved because it had a cost increase of something like $12 per car. If they will cut an item like that knowing it is an item that attracts greater sales, then cutting cost of a $5 grounding system that even Z enthusist like ourselves cannot even decide if it is functional or not seems more likely than not. Lets face it, is there anyone of us that would say "that is it, I am not buying this car, it does not have a grounding kit"?
Another issue is why would NISMO offer it if it did not have merit? Does anyone know if grounding kits are commonly offered in other products?
Well that is my 2 cents!

One question: Why is all this earthing/grounding theme so important? Is there an official Nissan letter about this? I think most new cars (I used to own a SpecV Sentra) are well earthed...is this lacking on the 350Z????
All I see on the pics is a bunch of wires going to the same place, I'd earth once for the engine and once for the tranny.-
Is there a link about this?
Thanks.

P.S. Will the same cables lengths fit a JDM/UK spec car?

One thing I would suggest is to run a ground wire to the exhaust pipes near the oxygen sensors. Since this is another important and high frequency input into the ECU, it should improve things even further.

Is there any way that your tech guy can try this to see if this does work? If it helps things even more, then you can go ahead and put me down for a red kit (no matter if you have to raise the price do to adding another wire).
