Hi, thanks for all your replys.
We strongly feel that $140 is competitively priced for the carbon fiber intake tube.
We offer Z owners and enthusiasts products that are functional, great looking, and of the highest quality and will continue to do so.
With so many interests, we will structure a group buy on this item.
Thanks.

I'll pass on $140, $100 and im in.

FYI APR Performance in So. Cal now has one for $95. Carbon fiber is all they do, they are very big in the drifting scene.

Look at any tuner book, they run FP all over.

would this work with a larger throttle body? those connectors (while hose clamped) look a little rigid!)

thanks!

I just installed this on my own car tonight - the connectors seal well but are quite flexible so should not be an issue with the larger throttle body. You will likely need some bigger clamps though as the ones that come with the pipe are a bit of a tight fit with stock TB

As for the cost, its all relative I suppose. I paid $100 for a cf engine cover on ebay, and the quality stunk. While this is not inexpensive, the weave is flawless.

This piece looks great!!
but something to keep in mind as well,
if you get in a front end collision, chances of the CF/Fiberglass shattering and chunks sucking into your engine are greater than if it was aluminum or even plastic.

just a thought...

APR Performance (www.aprperformance.com)
The carbon fiber intake tube was a one-off piece made for a 350Z show car. It was a modified tube from an intake for another application and was not even the correct size. It used a reducer/adaptor to mate to the MAF housing.
APR Performance has plans to eventually develop a full intake system for the 350Z but the development cycle has not been set. The company has the R&D department tied up for atleast the next 6 months with current projects.
They have no plans to make just an intake tube. They will do a full development on an intake system that has proven performance, or not release anything at all.

Got this from calling and talking to one of the guys at APR Performance.
I tried to angle him to get them to make just a tube, but they wont. Also, tried to confirm the $95 price quoted here and that is false, there was no price, it was a one-off on a show car. No, they will not make one-offs for just the tube, I tried. "So, make me a one-off, and then copy it for like another 1000." Nope.

I am seriously looking at the UTR carbon tube. Even at $140. At $120 it gets better.
Consider this, $120 UTR carbon tube + JWT PopCharger for $150, $270 for an intake system that looks hot and has "proven" gains.
Wonder if adding this tube to the PopCharger would give more power.....

in a front end collission the intake tube shattering, is the least of your problems Plus unless you leave your foot on the gas during the impact, its extremely unlikely anything would happy

UT: how about just selling them to us for $120 shipped as a special offer ? I'm sure youll get some orders and the gesture wont go unnoticed on these boards.

If not I guess I'll live without it for now since it doesnt look like we'll get the needed interest for the GB price.

This seems way too expensive. UTR even admitted this is carbon fiber laid over fiberglass so it restricts more... If it was pure carbon fiber all the way through sure... For a "GB" this isn't a very good discount. Obviously he is not interested in our business since he has not responded to donzens who would buy his product for a few 10 spots less. I'll wait for the APR.

uhmm...ok. List price is $175 + shipping, the GB they offered is $140 shipped....that's a discount of 20% and free shipping...I dont know many group buys with a discount rate of that.

I understand not everyone likes the part, wants it, needs it, whatever, but some of you guys have no tact and are a bit insulting in your posts.

Restricts more? My car rans 100% the same as it did with the stock pipe (which itself cannot flow all that well considering it has a large corregated section in it).

Now I have no idea what their cost to produce these parts (all in in terms of the couplers, the clamps, the packaging, the shipping, etc, but it seems a GB discount of 20% and free shipping is a pretty decent deal % wise. Now, that still might not make it worth it for many, and that I totally understand but it needs to make sense for them as well

I agree that $120 isnt all that much and the part looks great! I'd like to take advantage of that price. C'mon guys stop being sooo damn cheap. Its $20 we are talking about.

obviously you can't read that well. i got one of the first ones out and even though it is CF over fiberglass, it is very well made and if there is a difference in the interior size it is so very small it is barely noticable to the naked eye. and if you had read about the APR tube you would still be waiting a long time since they are not going to make any and i am sure it will cost alot more than $140 shipped if they did. i think you should reread this post below:

seems he did answer up to the "dozens" as you call it by posting this up. if your so-called "dozens" got onto this like you said, you would be getting a very good discount.

Thing is everyone wants basically something for nothing. I understand voicing your opinion that something is a bit too much for you to buy, but if you can't justify buying it or have no intention of buying it keep your opinions to yourself and let the guy do his business.
