Default Info on Tanabe's Super Racing Medallion

From what I've read the Tanabe's SMR is one of the louder exhaust for the 350Z. Can anyone confirm this? How does this thing look? Would someone care to post pics of it on your car? I've owned SMRs in the past and loved the look/sound. How are the gains? Same as most of the other exhausts or less? I've noticed its not nearly as popular on the board as Nismo, Injen, Borla, etc...any reason other than the noise to stay away from this exhaust? Thanks guys!!

this is totally subjective...but I was one of the first to try this exhaust when it came out last year. here goes:

1. Loud - it is INSANELY loud...even with the resonators in. And not a good loud either...sounded like a Honda

2. Looks - look like crap IMHO - it completely looked aftermarket (muffler shop aftermarket)

3. on the bright side it's really nicely made...great welds

Thanks so much for your input...I like the design (dual canisters) would an N1/RSR sound any different? Meaning not as Honda-ish. I know that you sell these exhausts and seeing as how i'm in the market maybe you could recommend something with a more aftermarket look thats fairly loud but not ricey. Thats more or less what I'm going for.

I've had my Tanabe SMR for awhile now and I'm really happy with it. Granted, its not for everone. The first week I had it I kept the silencers on cause its really damn loud, after a couple weeks of driving it does get a little bit quiter but it is still loud. Its not so bad at lower rpms but anything past 3500 or at wide open throttle and it screams, I like that. It is also extremely high quality, I trust tanabe and their whole lineup... Anything that can take the abuse of D1 is good for me. Here are some pictures:

Thanks so much for the pics...those are the first real shots of it that I've seen on a car. Could you take one standing about 10-15 feet behind the car? So how do you feel it sounds...loud yes...but is it raspy like a honda or deep...how would you discribe it.

It definetly doesn't sound like a honda. But, it is loud as hell. Alot of people confuse loudness with "hondaness". It is very deep at lower and midrange rpms and gets really loud at high rpms but not hondaish... I think the sound of an exhaust has alot to do with the car you put it on... I cant imagine any exhaust making a V6 sound like a 4 Cylinder Honda block. You know what? I cant really describe it, I'll try to record it and let you hear for yourself.

Btw, cant take that 10ft back pic right now its 1:25am :P But I'll take it tommorow afternoon.

it is not bad loud like a honda... it sounds phat... like the RSR...

It is a very high quality exhaust and when used with a Y-Pipe it is a very good free flowing exhaust set up great for NA and Turbo applications...
