On the viscous LSD the clutch pack is a can type assembly that has a series of disks mounted on a shaft. Between each disk is another set of disks that are attached to the housing by the outer edge. All the disks have holes drilled into them and they are usually immersed in a silicon fluid or some other similar fluid. When the speed difference between the two plates reaches a certain point the plates fluid couple together. A viscous LSD operates similar to an auto transmission.
On a plate clutch LSD there are a series of clutch disks on a sliding shaft with springs between each plate or cone. As torque increases on one shaft the springs force the friction plate clutches together so that they lock like friction plates in manual transmission.
Each type of LSD has it advantages & disadvatages.
Viscous LSD:
+ Faster reacting than clutch LSD, reacts to actual wheel speed more or less lock-up depending on wheel speed, can limit slip up to 90% and still take corners, smoother application
- slip lock-up not as powerful as clutch type, becomes just like an open differential if viscous coupling is exceeded, viscous failure is very abrupt.
Plate Clutch LSD:
+ Adjustable slip limit can be set for a specific range depending on application more lock-up for more power to the ground or more slip for better cornering, more powerful lock-up when compared to viscous LSD
- Cornering limit is about 70% lock-up, heat can cause slight clutch slippage, wears faster.
Has anyone tried this "hold the VDC off for 8 seconds and it will deactivate the brake LSD" feature? Sounds too good to be true. I have to pull the fuse if I want it off completely.
Also, has anyone actually tried the Consult II programing of the VDC threshold? That would be very sweet.

holding eight seconds will not do a thing, the RX8 does.
Shift lock will definitely spin the car around, because its like you pulling the hand brakes, but instead, you are using your gears. Ouchie if you are doing in the dry. haha =P
The car doesn;t really intervene but it does a little
