Does a centrifugal SC need a BOV?
Common sense tells me, it should.. Right? I mean, the whole purpose of a BOV is so that you don't destroy your turbine when the compressed air bounces off the throttle plate (while shifting) and rushes back towards the compressor. The BOV vents the air and you hear a whoosh.
A centrifugal SC works similarly to a turbo (which needs a BOV), except that it's powered by pulleys and a belt, not the exhaust.
Thoughts?

I would say no. The turbine on an sc spins only as fast as the engine does, and when the engine winds down it forces the turbine to do so as well.
With a turbo the inertia keeps the blades moving longer thus providing boost for longer. The Bov is more necessary in this application.
However I know vortech supplies a BOV, but because the pressure is reduced more immediately before the BOV activates than a turbo you dont get the familiar (and to some desireable) BOV squishhhhh.
Never a bad idea to have a BOV. Strangly enough, I know the Greddy TT comes without one.
I am going SC, but I love the BOV sound so I am upset to know I will not be getting to experience it.

The 400whp is obtainable . the 350trq is going to be hard . With a one step smaller serp pulley , most are making 390whp and 300 to325 trq . The Vortech kit comes with a BOV . Its a Mondo BOV and it whistles very loud untill it closes and you get into boost . I put a filter on it and stuffed it full foam , to quiet it down

A compressor bypass valve and a blow off valve are the same device. The one described in the pics above is simply vented to the intake v/s the atmosphere. Generally, a 7psi system will not make much noise blowing off and may not be noticeable inside the car. That doesn't mean that there is no need for it. The air slamming back into the compressor blades when the throttle closes does create a great deal of stress on the compressor shaft bearings as booger suggests and will eventually cause failure.
