Default Any 5AT's install 6MT final drive?

so have any of the 5AT's out there attempted to get a 6MT final drive yet?? i was really wondering how much better or worse this might help you out....i am guessing the 3.9 wont work because we obviously only have 5 gears...but seriously how often are you going to be going 160......i know i have never come close to it...ive maybe hit 140 MAX and that was on a very bad day.....i was extremely pissed off at life....but seriously any 5AT's do this yet?

Ben

I've had it for a little while. It helps with acceleration, you can feel more of a pull IMO. Best bang for the buck i've had from a performance mod so far in terms of actually being able to notice a difference, but then again, i don't have many mods. All in all, i think it's worth it and if i had to do it all again, this would actually be my first mod to do. BTW, i believe you could do the 3.9 on the 5at, you just needed something extra, forgot what that was. Also, i'm pretty sure you can still hit 160mph or whatever the limiter is set to (155?). I haven't gone that fast but im sure the 6mt fd isnt going to lower your top speed below the limiter. Worst thing i can come up with is that you cruise at a little higher rpm at highway speed. MPG will suffer but that's always based on driving habits as well.

I have one on the way and can provide some feedback after install. Since I have the 19" wheels I am hoping to get the same type of performance if I had my 17s on with the 6MT final drive.

I have an open rear in in My G35 and I have a complete lsd out of a MT6 on the garage floor waiting to be swapped out . Nitrous350....the 3.9 might be to much for the AT5 . Ive heard a 3.7 gear in the AT5 would be the same as a 3.9 in a MT6

I dont believe a taller rear end will lower your top speed, rather than increaset the time to get their.

turbocharged cars would benifit from longer gears rather than shorter gears.

hmmm...so it sounds like shinz is the only 5at out right now with the 6mt final drive...isn't it a 3.5 final drive?? how much better do u think the final drive did for you...from what it sounds you really like it...and the car pulls alot harder than usual.....how much did u pay for installation? and were there any other parts you needed to get to make the install complete?? details details we are all sitting on the edge of our seats... :-)

I think there are a few people that have done it as well. I know JimH has had his for a while. After parts and installation, i think everything ended up to about $450-$500. I swapped out the whole pumpkin from the 6mt so it was a straight swap. It is a 3.5 final drive. I dont know if i would say it pulled a lot harder, i guess that would be kind of subjective since everyones butt dyno is different. It was a big night and day difference but the difference was there. Basically enough of a difference that you would gain what performance you would lose from switching from 17 to 19's, as someone mentioned. Heres a recent thread with some info on that.

I have the 6mt final drive.I changed it with the LSD so I wouldnt know the feeling of changing the FD by its self.
That said, the change with both the LSD & final drive is a huge difference.
With the bigger final drive, the car is much quicker off the line(like I need more low end with the SC).
I definately have worse gas mileage.
