Re: Drivetrain loss 5AT?
My 03 dyno's at 225 HP and that is close to 22% loss. I swapped rearend gears from a 6MT and I now dyno @ 277 torque. This is about 50 ft. lbs. more torque than before and is higher than any stock 6MT. There is a slight fuel penalty, but not much. I can regularly out accelerate other 6MT's due to this. I've run a best of 13.901 @ 100 mph and she is box stock with 65,000 miles rung up! With the bigger wheels/tires, I am paying about 2/10's et penalty, I believe.

yeah, i believe it is roughly about 20% for the 5at and 15% for the 6mt.
btw, jimh i thought you left the forum. havent seen you in a long while. even though you may not remember me, it is good to see you again. i think the last post by you that i remember was something about a picture of a plaque you made.

The old rear 4AT of the Q45 resulted in a 22% loss [primarily tires and differential] in 1:1 gear test.
JATCO say the new [JR507E] 5AT is much more efficient thanks to lighter weight, small TC, and reduced internal pump losses.
Guess would be 21-20% with the viscous diff.
The whole efficiency thing varies greatly with ATF and diff temperature. Of cource tire brand inflation alignment [amount of rear camber and toe] and temperature can changes these 2-3%

Final drive swap
I found a wrecked (track) 6MT and arranged to swap my differential (whole assy) for its differential. This changed my final drive from 3.34 to 3.58. Because I had previously changed my rear tires/wheels to larger sizes, I was losing low end pull to the tune of roughly 2/10's in the 1/4 mile. I went from 13.9's to 14.2-3's with the upsizing in tires/wheels. The change in gearing gave this 2/10's back to me. I pay a small penalty in higher revs at highway speed, but it is not bad at all.
