Crawford "Tune-up"
Patience, grasshopper! I actually spoke with Doug just this a.m., and he's back "on task" with the project, now that the initial cast plenum business has slowed down a little bit (he got about 4 times the number of orders he expected). Business, however, is apparently still booming, b/c I didn't call him until after 9:00 our time, and by the end of a 5 min. call, he had 5 people standing there in the office for him to wait on them (of course, I suppose he could have just been saying that to get rid of me, but you would never do that, would you, Doug?).
One other bit of hopeful news (not absolutely confirmed yet, so don't ASSUME, but Crawford is hopeful) is that package won't require any re-mapping of ECU, other than raising the rev. limiter, to obtain optimal F/A mixture (and if you get the limited re-flash from T/S, I think you'll save about $300-350 as opposed to the full deal). Bottom line: keep your fingers crossed that the whole package may be slightly cheaper than originally thought.
The bottom line is that Crawford is in business to make money, so you KNOW they want to bring the package to market ASAP, and if the right combination comes along sooner rather than later, they'll pass along any R&D savings to the customer. OTOH, while Doug certainly isn't lazy and is working hard to finish, I know from experience that he isn't going to start selling it unless it will work properly, and it does what he says it will, since Crawford will ultimately have to stand behind it.
And along those lines, I'm sure all of us could cite numerous examples of companies who rushed to market with unproven, insufficiently tested designs just to make a quick buck (e.g., the first couple versions of the Kinetix plenum, some of the first Stillen designs), only to have a great many failures, accompanied by a great many P.O.'d posts on this forum.
One thing I can PROMISE is that they'll post as soon as it's available; it won't take a "bump" to talk them into letting everyone know. Don't get frustrated

WHOA!!! Just saw that my last post was #243 on this thread. What's the record for posts on a single thread on this forum? And how's that for a measure of the interest in a little extra N/A rwhp?

Record for just this forum section (engine) is probably the Turbonetics thread, it's something like 60 pages.

Adam's not gonna use language like "reborn" unless they were turning Doug's car into a screamer, not a whiner.

Any idea on what this package will entail and when it may be released? Inquiring minds would like to know
I think I have a good idea, but some clarification would be great.

I believe there was another thread somewhere else with a dyno that showed we would be faster than a stock M3. Thats pretty sweet. If you get this complete Crawford package and then add an exhaust, pulley and popcharger on it we should be over 300rwhp. correct???

Can't wait to see how the project is coming as many of us will be down there next month for Z-Attack weekend!!
Sounds like a winner. It's so confusing trying to think if I should wait or not. I'll end up getting the Alphawerk headers..not sure how the Crawford package will mate with that but should be ok.
So if they are doing custom heads/cams, will they need the oem heads as a core?
I assume the power was made across the board, hence the 'screaming' till redline?

I don't think Doug's far enought along to the point of deciding on core charges, exact cost, etc - still in the development stage. Actually, to me, the power surge began about 4500+ rpm's.....the cams he has right now react like the JWT's - the real hp increase kicks in at the upper end. I'm in the same boat wondering whether to wait or not.....really want to do the JWT cams NOW.

And maybe we should start a new thread on this. Or at least the Crawford guys should when the project is ready. Just be sure to post a link in here for those of subscribed here.

wait a tic. This kit is going to REQUIRE the TS 7200RPM limit? And it will be safe at that limit? I read that the fuel system dies after just a few seconds at high RPMs. Will this kit include fuel accessories?
Thanks!
Thanks!
