I just swapped out my OEM fluid for the new 75w85 redline stuff, and I gotta say I like the OEM fluid better. The trans with the OEM fluid was a little notchy with 1-2 shifts (brand new trans too), but it's even worse with the redline. I'm thinking about trying Amsoil or even some GM syncromesh before I put the OEM stuff back in.

I just swapped out my OEM fluid for the new 75w85 redline stuff, and I gotta say I like the OEM fluid better. I've had the fluid in for a couple of weeks now (about a tank of gas worth of driving). Haven't noticed any change in mileage at all, but the shifting seems to be getting even rougher. What is especially odd to me is that it seems to shift fine in the morning when it's cold, but once it starts warming up the shifting gets gradually rougher. Perhaps the redline 75w85 is actually too thin? No idea, just throwing that out there. But I'm itching to try something else and I can't decide between OEM, synchromesh, or amsoil.

I just did the transmission and differential fluid change, and at the end I realized the washer for the transmission drain plug was left off. Anyone have any suggestions for ways to put it back on with minimal fluid loss, or is it likely to be okay without it and possibly tougher to loosen next time?
Edit: I was able to get my friend to plug the drain hole with his thumb while I placed the washer back on the plug. I think I only lost 1/10th a quart in the process.

Hmm that's strange. When I had the MT-90 in there the first morning shift in 30 deg F temps was a huge grind and mpg dropped to a terrible 16mpg. Too bad, I have a box of MT-85 sitting here right now. It's only pennies more than Nissan MTF so I thought maybe Redline got it right this time. Perhaps all they did was mix a touch of MT-90 to their MTL and relabeled the bottle and add come coloring dye? Maybe I'll wait for more reviews on the MT-85. Anyone else use this stuff yet?

Keep in mind what's "cold" for me in San Diego is likely a lot warmer than the temps you see. It rarely gets below 50 here. In any case I just bought some amsoil so I'll be swapping with that when I get some time in the next few weeks. I'll post a comparison with the redline after I get some driving time with the new fluid.
