True, I found that our transmissions are highly sensitive to viscosity and finding 75W-85 was impossible. I tried Redline MT-90 and found it ruined my mpg and first cold shifts were a grind in freezing temps. Hopefully the MT-85 fairs better. I don't feel like changing oil in the cold again lol.

i just changed my tranny fluid and differential fluid with redline MT85 (tranny) and redline75w-90 (differential). I have no problems.!!!.specially the MT85, the shifting is silky smooth!!!

I changed my tranny fluid the other day and I believe I've found an easier way to do it. First of all, I was lucky enough to be able to get it on a lift which made the process a little easier because I didn't have to spend 20 mins jacking up the car and then trying to crawl under, but this method should still work just fine if thats the way you do it. The only thing you need is a sauce pump that you can buy at your local food shop or grocery store. It only costs a couple of bucks and it works great. All you have to do is stick it in the bottle, grab the bottle and the pump's tube with one hand, and hold the top of the pump for support so that it doesn't snap off. Then just push the bottle up and pull it back down. There is no mess whatsoever and it fills up the tranny fast.

There's actually more than enough of room. The bottle is only 9 inches (Redline) and the pump that I used was 20in from top to bottom, but it could be trimmed down to about 12in. If you're using jack stands, that's at least 15+ inches from the ground to the fill hole. This method is a lot easier, cleaner, and only takes like 5 minutes to fill up the tranny.

Well I swapped out the redline mt-85 for some amsoil 75w90, and I gotta say I like the amsoil better. The amsoil definitely isn't as clunky as the redline was. While the redline was significantly more clunky than the OEM fluid for me, I'd say the amsoil is marginally better than OEM. I wouldn't say that changing any of these fluids provided a drastic change over one another though, which I found odd, considering that the redline fluid in my old mazdaspeed 3 was a HUGE difference over the OEM stuff. Guess the VQ trans is just odd that way.
The only downside I have with the amsoil is that shifting into second gear is a lot tougher in the morning. No grinds or anything like that, but the shifter is just really stiff. Not a big deal for me.

Update: I've been on Redline MT-85 (75W-85) for almost 5 days and it's feeling great on my '05. Mpg is a solid 20mpg and shifter feel improves after the first 2 days it seems. I highly recommend this viscosity (Redline MT-85 or Nissan MTF) for this gen V35 or Z33.

That's the same problem I had with Redline MT-90 (75W-90). When temps were in the 30s the first shift in the morning sucked so bad and mpg dropped to 16mpg. One thing you could try is ride 1st gear for at least 10 seconds going slowly to circulate the oil.
Update: I've been on Redline MT-85 (75W-85) for almost 5 days and it's feeling great on my '05. Mpg is a solid 20mpg and shifter feel improves after the first 2 days it seems. I highly recommend this viscosity (Redline MT-85 or Nissan MTF) for this gen V35 or Z33.

so should i stick to the suction pump method?
by the way... i talked to a parts guy from the dealership today.. he said the fill plug in the diff is a little impossible to reach and suggested me use the drain plug to fill... is he correct?

I hope my S13 shifts this well on MT-85. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.i just changed it tonight. I mixed 1 leftover qt of MT-90 and the rest is MT-85.
So I'm proposing that the best combo of synthetic gear oil in proper viscosity is probably Redline MT-85 in the trans and Amsoil 80W-90 in the diff. Perhaps I will run Amsoil in the rear diff next spring when I need to put it on jackstands again lol.

I would buy the suction gun as a back up if you are not on a lift, just in case you do not have clearance. I remember not being able to fit the bottle with a short funnel under there.
If you are able to fit the pump under there, then return the suction gun.

I had my wheels off when I serviced the transmission (also flushed the brake fluid) and found this method to be very easy and straightforward....
The little black clip allowed me to pump the fluid without having to hold the tube in place...
I just held each bottle with my feet and pumped the fluid into the transmission.
The pump didn't reach down to the bottom of the bottles, so I ended up having to poor "partials" into one bottle to completely fill the transmission. (used a funnel)

In your pictures above, are those 2 different pumps, the one coming from the MTF bottle (1st pic) and the one with the black clip (2nd pic)? How much were they? Maybe that'll make my digging at autozone easier
