I guess by bolting only the two hole on the front and rear of the lower plenum....should be interesting though. I suggest a lot of gasket maker haha

I never said it was welded shut.
It is still 3 pieces [upper, plenum spacer, and lower]
It just appears that it is one piece because everything was ground, sanded, and smoothed together.

Posts inside are still there

I will also gasket match the lower collector and the lower plenum, and maybe get rid of all the cast marks.

As for the MREV2 mod, prob wont do that till im ready to get tuned.

Here's a quick sounds clip of the exhaust, and you can somewhat hear the intake sound during the shot where I'm appoaching the video camera....

nice!

By the way, how much does your flywheel weigh?
Seems like your engine revs pretty freely.

If my ears are correct, your intake has a hollowed out sound.... am i even close?

According to Carbonetic's webpage, the street verison, which is 1300kg pressure plate, flywheel/clutch combo weighs in at the same amount as stock. I have the 1600kg pressure plate, so I'm not sure if it weighs a little less. I would definitely assume it does. I couldn't find mine on the chart listed on Carbonetic's site though I know it was pretty light when I took it out of the box! Had Nissan install it when I got my engine replaced under the TSB

As far as the intake, it's a short ram design. It's the JDM Trust GReddy Intake system with the little mushroom filter that everyone is always bitxhing about. But I like it, and it'd different. Looks like this (but I have the blue filter):

P.S. You can hear the clutch like crazy at the end of the video, where I'm turning around to pull up to the camera.

In your opinion, is the clutch chatter worth the benefit of the lightened flywheel?

as for the sound of your intake sounding HALLOWED OUT, is that from the intake tube or the modifications you did to the intake manifold?

I honestly don't really mind it. There are times when I'm driving, say in 4th or 5th gear, and the RPMs are really low...if I try to give it too much gas the transmission gets REALLY loud and kind of vibrates the whole car until I get to an RPM where the gearbox is happier. But I kind of like it honestly. It definitely took some getting used to before I was ok with it though.

As for that hallowed out sound, I would imagine it comes from the plenum and manifold. I had installed that intake before I did the whole plenum set up and the only real difference I noticed was a bit more of a growl, and I could hear that weird whistling sound which comes from the throttle body on the VQ when you put an intake on it. If any of you guys have an aftermarket intake, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. As far as I know, everyone experiences that weird whistle. But yeah, I don't really notice much of a hallowed out sound, it's possible it could just be the video, or maybe you just hear it differently than I do.

So I conned a co-worker, I mean a friend with a 350z asked me to take a crack at his manifold. After looking at it a little longer, I think the airflow around the 2 inputs that are closest to the outside edge could be improved. So I took this one a little bit further, in this picture it's the top left and bottom right portions I'm referring to:

I followed the flow of the casting a little better:

Here's the same area originally:

This is the other one I notched out:

Thoughts? It's not installed yet, wondering if I should take the second area down a bit more.

I also shaved those down... just make sure you got the transition as smooth as possible.. you dont want to put it on and then beat yourself up weather you should have taken off that lil extra.

I did notch it in a little more, my co-worker was happy with it. Now I want to take mine off and make those little changes! He did leave me his old plenum, so I could just port that one and swap it out.

I feel like I should do something useful now with my oem revup plenum, upper manifold and lower manifold....

The whole setup is just sitting in my basement haha, I could probably smooth and polish the lower manifold and sell it on here...
