you will need at least two oil seals for the stub axles.. change them no matter what, its not worth trying to save few bucks by risking the diff to spray out the oil all over your rear end

I assume the lsd came with the bearing fitted already.. but I would get new side bearing just to feel safe and for the sake of 'noiseless' operation!

replace both side bearings, get genuine nissan bearings, they're not overly expensive

+1

I'm not equiped to balance a "hot rotating bit" myself.

By the way bleunetizen, did I miss the part where you chim and balance the diff in the housing so it doesn't twist and torque sideways ?

Very lucky indeed.

These shims are sold in .05mm (that's .002in) increments...

What were the odds of a .05mm match I wonder?

yeah but i don't think it actually needs to be that accurate because there is quiet a bit of allowance it gives. I did not use a spring gauge but it was pretty much equally tight as they were stock.

been driving it for about 500km now, the fd makes zero noise. I do however get a tiny bit of noise from the lsd when applying gas or heavy engine braking with the steering wheel is locked on both sides, nothing that bothers me really. during normal driving or thrashing around corners, the diff was totally silent, just like stock.

it was so much easier to control the car sideways now. i was doing figure 8's in low speed lock to lock, then i started applying a bit more gas gradually, and i was very confident in doing figure8's in sideways lol. its so predictable and controllable. i should do some more figure 8's time to time without sliding the car and probably will get the oil changed during this weekend.

i have zero complaints so far. its quiet, easy to control, better traction, better confidence, etc etc. cant recommend it more

A lightweight clutch and flywheel setup will also help with your combination.

yes, but my stock clutch is holding the power nicely at the moment, I will probably go for oem clutch with lighter flywheel when the clutch goes..

and my only power mods in the future probably will be cam/ecu, those results that tomei puts up for their drop in cams look pretty good to me. and maybe some kind of temperature sensing method to see if i am in danger zone..

+1 on the flywheel but why not the clutch? I understand the clamping force on some of the clutches are high, but the clutch disc is also important. Plus if you go with Tilton, you can get a pretty lightweight setup.

Cams and ECU will do wonders with your mods, it'll really open things up.

because i don't think aftermarket clutches are needed unless stock clutch cant handle the power

I drove it for about 500~600km, did some figure 8's and full lock turns time to time. the lsd started to give me this grinding noise when doing full lock turns. that didnt happen when i first drove it around after the install, the noise actually got worse over time. the noise however, completely went away when the diff got hot.

so I decided to do my first oil change, guessing there should be fair amount of crap mixed up in the oil due to the lsd/fd gears being new.

drained the oil and W T F ! I havent seen such a wasted oil before! the oil turned into metallic darkgrey/purple colour. there were fine metallic dust floating around too

put the new oil in and went for a run to see if it was making any difference. the noise is gone again, the lsd became smoother overall. i guess the noise was occuring from the oil containing too much of crap in it. be interested to see how long it will last before it does that again.. I will be chaning the oil after 5000km..

after the oil change, i measured the 80-120km accel again and it gave me 3.29~3.32sec constant. so thats down by 0.27sec from the fd upgrade, I am happy with it
