Some time in mid-2006 the 350z lost the pulley. I stumbled across this blog after I compared my engine to my friends. Both are 06 models, his built in June / 06 and mine in Oct / 06. His has the pulley and mind does not. My original engine was replace due to OC and it has bolts where the pulley bracket was, the new engines (yes, there was more than one) neither had bolts in the location where the pulley bracket use to be. Also, the bolt hole locations where the bracket mounts too are not threaded. Long story short you should be able to get the shorted belt for the Mid-2006 models if you want to do this mod.

Feel any difference between the 06.5 and his?

I have not drove my his yet and mine is getting the 3rd engine put in today, should have it back by Thur or Fri. We are planning on switching cars to see if there is a difference but since his is not a OC I would assume that both will fill about the same. I will keep you posted...

I may have missed it, but why do we need to pull off the other belt?

You need a shorter belt if the pulley is removed -

Nissan belt number 11720-4P10A cost is $24.10

Make sure you tell them that you need a belt for an 06 350z manufactured between 8/06 to 11/06

you need a 1" shorter belt than normal. I posted a pic of the Napa/Gates belt I used, back on early pages of this thread.

I'm sorry, but we're not communicating. Why do we need to pull off the other belt? The other belt is the one that turns the A/C compressor. Isn't the A/C belt behind the one we're working with?

^ Yes it is.

I dont see why you'd have to remove it to do this mod. But then again I dont really know because I deleted my A/C system so I dont have the compressor or belt in place anymore.

I wrote this write up while I was performing a belt swap on both belts. Both of my belts were showing a fair amount of cracking.....so, I while changing the belts, I noticed that the pulley (in question) was not being used. Hence, this mod came about!

Thumbs up

idler pulley removed and alternator belt replaced today. i had to get a shorter belt to go with the smaller UR underdrive pulley. The new belt i got just made it with the adjuster pulley all the way up. If it gives too much in a week or so, i might have to get a half inch shorter belt just to be 100% perfect. Butt dyno tells me the engine runs happier with less weight.

see the new alternator spacer installed just above the word "made" on the belt.

remove these useless weight that you don't need. One less thing that could go wrong.
