Its already set 1.5 way from the factory. You need a 2 quart jug of motul. You will have a little left over.

got done installing mine yesterday, I bought it used it was set to 2 way 100%, I now have it set for 1.5 but left it at 100% i will back it off to 60% tonight. and see the difference. the differential was already broken in from previous owner so i did a few figure 8's and then took it on a nice drive. it completely transformed the car.... so much traction. i feel allot more comfortable now. it scrubs hard making tight u turns at 100%

the LSD comes with new Bearings, new Bolts for the Ring Gear, and the Axle Stubs. you will need to buy a jug of Motul 90PA Diferential oil, and some Grey RTV silicone for the Differential Cover.

Depends what sort of miles you're putting on it. Road course, Auto-x, or drift, I'd change the oil every 2-3 events depending on how long you're car is tracked. For every day use and 1 weekend event a month or so, you're probably ok changing the fluid twice a year.

One thing to note - I used the Nismo Veruspeed gear oil to break in the diff + a little extra (500mi or so) and then swapped to Motul 90PA before track use. The first diff oil change you do is probably the most important one due to the friction surfaces' initial wear on the clutch plates. The Veruspeed oil was pretty dark/nasty after 500 miles.

Bump from the past... Here's a unique question to anyone who has installed a differential using a spare pumpkin/carrier. Does the driveshaft need to line up with the pumpkin end in a certain orientation or specific arrangement? When you reinstall a the original pumpkin people have marked the way it was originally installed, but what about a new/used pumpkin install like the OP's?

Does not make a difference, the marking of the driveshaft and diff flange is an overly cautious step by Nissan to avoid drivetrain vibration.

I would not worry about it but make sure you replace the driveshaft and axle bolts when swapping.

I used standard red axle grease.

Side seals were driven in by a piece of 2X4 and a hammer

Citrus,

I'm considering swapping out my 3.53 ring/pinion set with a 3.69 set onto my Nismo diff. Have you done a gear swap or can you suggest a good shop in CO who I can carry the pumpkin into and have them swap gears and shim the diff correct?

I know a lot of shops will TELL you they can do this but can't really. My spare rear end has 4.08s in it and it had to get reworked 3 times before it quit sounding like a coffee bean grinder.

Look up a driveline specific shop in your area.

I have not done a gear swap, you might check places like MAC, Mofab, or Speed Image if they do diff work. I would imagine any of the 3 would be able to. Boulder Nissan probably could do it, but they charge an arm and a leg for labor.

I know I'm digging up an old thread here, but since this thread is most ON-TOPIC to what I'm looking for, I figured I'd ask..

I have an '06 Base, so it's an open diff, and I just picked up a Tomei 2-way for the stock VLSD pumpkin. I know Tomei makes the HXA diff for the stock open diff models, but I got this NIB diff and the 3.9 gearset for a steal so I had to buy it and figured I'd rather replace everything down there anyway.

Could someone give me a run-down of what all I would need to do the swap? So far looks like I'll need, but just want to confirm or see if I'm missing anything:

1 - Axle Stub (38220-Z33002)
1 - Axle Stub (38220-Z33003)
(different sizes because of the VLSD pumpkin)

1 - Circlip - Side Gear (38225-Z33002)
2 - Oil Seals (38342-P9010)
2 - Bearings (38440-0C000)
2 - Shim Adjust (Side Bearings) (38453-Z33001)
10 - Drive Gear Bolts (38102-Z33001)
1 - Rear Pinion Bearing (38120-Z33001) (Figured I would replace since I'm doing the 3.9 Tomei Gears also)
1 - Washer Adjust-Drive Pinion (38154-Z33001)

Red Axle Grease for side oil seals
Grey/Black RTV Sealer for rear cover

And I'll be doing a Nismo Finned Diff Cover also, but did I miss anything or can you guys think of anything else??...
Thanks in advance.
