cool...I have everything prepared for it...

I've install a switch next to the traction control...

ran the wires and zip-tied everything nice and neatly next to the control box...

but I haven't had time to find out which wire it is...

so many little projects

Is there an orange wire coming from the VDC box behind the shifter? Sorry I couldnt be more help, I have a G35 obviously. I'm surprised it wouldn't be the same, but I guess the Z would have a slightly different interior harness due to length and feature differences.

I have a 2003 track model. I cut the orange wire and the traction control part works great. But when your on gas and brake EA trail braking or Brake stand it cuts throttle. I believe this is some kind of safety feature.

What you're dealing with is brake override... you know, 'brake always wins' -- the thing that might have saved Toyota from all their recall madness LOL it has nothing to do with TCS/VDC.

You need to either pull the brake fuse (easy, but you will have no brake lights) or wire a switch in line with the brake line going to the ECU so your brake lights still work and you have a switch for it.

Either method stops the brake signal from reaching the ECU and you can burn out all day long. I put my switch in the gauge pod for easy access at the track.

Finally got around to taking a pic. The orange vinyl is just temporary until I get some black vinyl or paint. I'm also thinking about changing the switch to a plain black one.

i finished installing this.
You won't be able to turn off VDC (no lights on the dash) when the car is still running.
When i turned ON VDC (lights on the dash) and then OFF, ABS light comes on and goes away. Is this normal? I took a video of this. The video starts with the switch in OFF position.

Its been a while since I did my install and actually the first time I had an issue as you might have read. I think my abs light does flash when it is off and then turned back on, but the VDC will still be off until you recycle the ignition/engine and reset the switch before you turn it back on. Make sense?

Not to bring this back up but!
I think the the vdc works with the abs so when you kill the vdc it affects the abs as well right? Any comments on this? I just bought another z and I hate the vdc. I miss my base z with no tcs or vdc. Is there a way to convert to base model equipment and not have you gauges lit up all stupid with warning lights?

What if I take the box out completely? Anyone tried this? Any comments or concerns?

AnywYs, damn I iss my base model haha..

sorry to bring up this old thread but isnt the abs what causes the understeer after touching the brake before a corner or is this the vdc? i could care less about stand still burnouts. i just want to get rid of the understeer while on the track, that isnt part of the car or my braking technique.

Oh really? Love to hear how the type of tire used effects under vs oversteer.

Back on topic, most of the 350Zs understeer comes from the tire staggerded setup. A square setup gets rid of almost all of the push. You will need to be prepared for rotation though.
