DIY VQ35HR Spark Plug Replacement
Key differences between the HR and DE are:
*Replacing the spark plugs on the HR is very difficult if not impossible to complete without removal of the intake manifold
*You'll need a 14mm spark plug socket to remove them
Tools required:
Socket wrench with 4"+ extension
10mm, 12mm, 14mm sockets
14mm spark plug socket
Flat head screw driver
Process breakdown:
1. Remove engine cover and intakes
2. Remove strut bar *14mm (this is 2nd because 1 nut is abstructed by intakes)
3. Remove vacume hoses along w/ small hoses filled with radiator fluid (I only came across 1 because I refused to remove all hoses)
4. Remove intake manifold or push out of the way*12mm
5. Remove coilpacks & Replace Sparkplugs *10mm & 14mm Sparkplug Socket
6. Stick it all back in a reverse order
Pics:
My process was a bit extensive due to having CAI.. I had to remove front bumper to get the upper tubes off with minimal damage.
There are 6 long bolts on the intake manifold and two nuts, one in at the front and the other in the rear. (12mm)
I didn't feel like removing all the hoses attached to the intake manifold so I lifted it as high as I could and held it up with a wrench.
Here are the coilpacks, each have a bolt that must be removed. (10mm)
(bonus pic) And this is how it looks like underneath the manifold.. I'm not sure if all that oil is normal, but it seems like it according to other threads on this forum..

funny . . the service manual for HR says you just remove engine cover . . .
i think they just want to replace plugs 1 and 2 . . . there is no way you can get to the rest without removing the hoses and TB/intakes

Don't waste your time removing the Intake Manifold . Doing plugs on an HR is cake.
Disconnect negative terminal-remove engine cover-unplug TBs-unbolt them and move them out of the way just enough so you can get to the back plugs
