Default 2006 ECU/NATS flash Rev-up to non rev-up

Disclaimer: I’m not a Nissan tech. This worked for me. If it dorks up on you, it’s on you.
First off huge shout out to Pleonasm on G35driver.com. Beware: This post focuses on utilizing the Launch X431 V+ bi-directional scanner to recode a used ecu to the correct vin and reflash your keys so they will work with your new(used) ecu. If you have a different scan tool, this may or may not help you. If you don’t have a higher end scan tool, read Pleonasms post for a cheaper alternative here: https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-forced-induction/471355-revup-non-revup-how-went.html#&gid=1&pid=2
Also the codes posted should work for all 350Z.
Edit: I do not know if the V431 will do this. The V431 is about $400 cheaper than the X431 V+. Do your research.

1. If you have a Launch, you are familiar with this. Main thing is do a manual vin input.

2. Duh

3. Hit auto search and it will ask for your VIN.

4. Plug YOUR CHASSIS VIN in and you get this. Hit next.

5. Ok, I’m gonna tell you what I did in order and what I THINK you can do. What I did: enter system selection. What I THINK you can do is skip ahead to #13 and go straight into NATS.

6. Enter engine.

7. Enter special function.

8. I now THINK this function is for a brand new ECU and not reflashing a used ECU. I went in it.

9. Follow the setup instructions.

10. It popped up with the old vin. It was odd that this ECU had two different vins in 1st Time and 2nd Time. Highlight first time and hit “Input”. Input your chassis vin.

11. Highlight 2nd Time and hit Input. Then enter your chassis vin again.

12. DO NOT FOLLOW THE SCREEN PROMPT! You will lose you 2nd time vin input. You want your chassis vin to show up on both lines. Just hit “ok”. Again, DO NOT FOLLOW THE SCREEN PROMPT. Your NATS light will be on. Your key does not match the key stored in the ECU. Time to flash keys.

13. Enter NATS. Have all of your keys avail for re-flash. Any keys not flashed in sequence, will not work when you are done. Remove keys from any remote fobs. Keep unflashed keys away from ignition switch. I placed mine in the passenger seat. After I flashed a key, I set it behind me on the deck. I kept at it until all three of my keys were done. I bought my chip keys on eBay. My local Nissan dealer punched them for me for free after examining my title. Ymmv w/your dealer.

14. You will get a confirmation page. Hit next.

15. This is why I think you can start at 13. I watched either an Eric the Car Guy or Scanner Danner vid where they started here with their Autel. Hit “After replacing or installing operation”. If it doesn’t let you skip ahead, start at #1. I’ll verify this works late this year when my buddy does a manual swap.

16. Hit replace ecu.

17. A warning I spoke of earlier. Hit ok when ready.

18. a. Turn your key back where you can pull it out, then place it back in. ENSURE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED! b. Hit hazard light button. c. Place in park or neutral as applicable. d. I placed a battery charger on trickle for the whole operation. (Keep fan/radio off) e. Hit ok when ready.

19. This is where I was like “oh crap!” No worries, the codes on the pic are good. I used Pleonasm’s BCM info and links to verify the code. Sure enough 6d365 was on my BCM sticker. Write down the codes displayed. Hit ok.

20. Enter 9307 and hit ok.

21. Follow the prompts. KOEO. Key on engine off.

22. a. Remove key. Ensure wheel is LOCKED. b. Insert key KOEO. c. NATS light blinks 5 times. d. Remove key. Ensure wheel is LOCKED. This key is now registered. Wait 3 seconds and repeat for up to 3 more keys.

23. a. After last key is flashed, insert flashed key turn KOEO. Observe NATS light flash 5 times. Disregard step 2. b. Remove key. Observe NATS light. Should now flash once every 3 seconds. c. You did it!

24. I ignored this. I don’t have push button start or remote start.

Go back in and erase ECU codes. Then rescan. All NATS codes should be gone. In this case, I haven’t my breather tube installed and I don’t have cruise control buttons. Now wish me luck this JDM motor works as advertised in a couple of days after everything is buttoned up!

Default Update

I apologize for not updating. I knocked that out a week before deploying and smooth forgot. Car works as advertised. My son has been driving it for close to 6 months now without a hiccup. I sure hope this helps someone. I gotta admit I was scared I was going to have to punt the ecu to a pro, but it turned out just fine.
