Im 20 and was thinking about flying to venice, bullet training to rome, then to napoli, then ferry to palermo, then flying home. june 2007, about 3 week trip. I figure about 2k for hostels and flights and transportation. plus a grand for spending cash. any thoughts? certain cities i should stay in longer than others? i read that napoli is a ****hole, but i really wanna see pompeii so i gotta stop by there and get a *pizza*

i did it about 10 years ago, and the average hostel price (converted) was about 15-20 euro a night per person. personally, three weeks is barely going to scratch the surface, but it'd be a nice getaway -- i dunno if the cathedral is still up in Asisi or not, but that was very beautiful. If your friend likes shopping (or if you do), Florence is nice but pretty expensive.
