Default CF HOOD WEIGHTS???? much needed thread!!

i did a search and didnt find much info on the weight of these cf hoods at all.

this is the Primary objective in buying a cf hood. Is to at least lose some weight. Now given we are somewhat of an exception to the rule because of our aluminum stock hoods.

but i am getting to buy a cf hood and my favorite look/price tag so far is the seibon TC. I was told that this hood weighs a couple more pounds than the stock hood! Is that true.??
whats the weight loss of all the other hoods.

For all the people that have cf hoods and actually took the time to weigh them please chime in.

ive had two different dealers tell me two completely different things.

One says that the seibon TC hood weighs 1-2 pounds more than stock. The other says it weighs 10-12 pounds less than stock.
I have put an email in at seibon awaiting for a response.
10-12 pounds less sounds more reasonable but im not sure.

I seriously doubt that the weight savings would be that much. I know on the s2k cars the oem hoods were lighter than the CF hoods. I've ordered a Seibon OEM CF Hood. I'll way both and compare the two and post the differences next week with pics.

I think most people get CF hoods just for the looks and to have a CF hood even when the weight savings/gains are minimal......the seibon TC hood looks cool.....

the cf hoods from vis, seibon, etc are not going to save you much if any weight at all. it's just for looks.

even with dry carbon hoods, the weight loss would still be pretty minimal, ~8-10 lbs max.

Yeah more for looks. I'm not even going to think about the weight difference. I just like the vented CF hoods.

yeah thats where the exception to the rule comes in. Because our cars already come with aluminum hoods.

but like with My IS300 which has a very heavy hood. The main reason i want a cf hood is for the weight loss.

not really a much needed thread since you pretty much stated that our cars are not affected by a CF hood (weight-wise).

just buy the one you like the look of, 2lbs here or there is a the difference between taking a **** before you leave work or waiting till you get home, who cares

I seriously doubt the CF is saving anywhere near 10lbs. I've picked up the Siebon TS and the stock hood and they are very close to the same.

Further the stock aluminum hood is not that heavy. <25lbs maybe? Taking 10-12 off that would make the CF hood 13-15lbs. I doubt that.

not all. ^^^

it is a needed thread imo.

i spent about an hour trying to search for different weights of different hoods. And i didnt find anything. Go to is300.net and its a different story.

The full carbon fiber hoods from topsecrete and varis. Im sure only weigh about 8-10lbs.

actually every company that puts out aftermarket CF hoods say "almost no weight loss" because our hoods are so light stock. Dry CF might weigh 8-10lbs, but surely not fiberglass coated with CF and a sealer coat.

well, not sure how many of the other dealers you talked to actually own the hood

It def weighs more than stock...not much, but it does weigh more

You will absolutely positively not noticed 2 lbs or even 5 lbs in either direction

ps - I welded a 5lb plate to your rear diff last weekend

didn't you notice?!?

Why is this a needed thread? Since it will help people see that their show pieces have collectively saved them the equivalent of a 6 pack of beer, yay

Yes, maybe on the IS300 boards the weight is talked about, becasue it acutally is different there(like you said), but NOT on our cars, (like you have already said).
