Unhappy Clear overspray on headlamp enclosure.

The previous owner of my Z had the front fender repainted at one point. The paint on the fender itself looks fine. It's just as good, if not, better than stock. The only problem is it looks like they painted it on the car and didn't adequately mask the headlight enclosures.

Now what I have is a very fine mist of clearcoat overspray on the headlight enclosure itself. Its not TOO noticable, but it IS enough to irritate me.

Now, I am looking for a way to safely removing this without scratching or marring the enclosure surface. I have read that you can safely remove overspray from the paint using a clay bar, and it has also been reccomended to possibly try cleaner wax to remove this overspray.

Does anyone have any reccomendations on how to fix this???

I don't want to have to buy new enclosures to replace the track xenon's that are already installed...

Thanks in advance!

are you sure it's clearcoat? A lot of people seem to have a problem with film developing on the inside of the headlight.

Positive.

There is actually a line you can make out across the plastic where the tape was. You can also feel rough texture where the paint dried.

you can try some plastic polish or chrome polish. i remember being able to take the "ugly yellow" from my brother's headlight (Eclipse).

Or if anything take it back to the shop, they should know how to get rid of that for sure.

I just had my bumper/qtr. panel painted, there are some areas on the car that are rough (like on the OPPOSITE side ) I don't know how they managed to do that, but i'm taking it back so they can fix that.

I picked up a clay bar today and it came right off. Now I just need to worry about the film on the inside of the enclosure.

Thanks the help!

Would paint thinner affect the plastic?

Something should be able to dissolve it without affecting the plastic.....`

I believe paint thinner would mess up plastic.

As for the inside of the headlight, i believe you can take it to the dealership and get your headlights replaced because it's a Nissan defect (someone got them replaced).

Use claybar - will take the overspray right off. For God's sake, DON'T use paint thinner..........

Gosh, I'd like to be able to remove that thin film build up crap that's been inside my headlight for months. I've always thought it was the outside that was messing up due do gawd knows what.
