has anyone rewired the top signal so that it stays on? i was wondering if i could just rewire that and the strip so they trade functions. having the top stay on and only use the strip for a blinker. im wondering if the bulb will get too hot and possibly damage the lens. any input is appreciated. thanks!

 

well you figured half of it out. the upper signal bulb would deffinately get too hot over an extended period of time possibly discoloring your chrome or even the lens in the upper portion fo your light. i dont think you can just switch the wiring & be done with it. the voltage sent to the flasher bulb may be too high for the small wedge bulb. the flasher bulb currently used is large so the indication can be seen, you may run into problems with not seeing the smaller bulb flash during the day,a s well as the fact that the current flasher bulb may look too bright when left on as parking lamps......i could be wrong altogether, my suggestion would be to look into the voltage going to each bulb then the voltage rating of each bulb.........

how much hotter do led's get than a standard bulb? if there was a way to correct EVERYTHING you just said, it would be to put a light that produces less heat, and have it possible dual filament so that one would stay on constantly, while the other only blinks...are led's a possibility (are they not as hot) and does anyone out there make a dual filament version. im sure it would be possible to wire in a 7443 socket in the 7440's place, but how would it be mounted in the light itself?

 

you can rewire at will; all bulbs in a car run off 12volts; and all the wiring can handle the wattage of any bulb in the car.

as for heat issues; I would be concerned about the turn signal bulb(7440) running constantly; you might try to find a lower wattage bulb that would be cooler but not as bright. you could get a 7443 bulb; same exact bulb but dual filiment and hook the wireing up to the 5w filiment(ussually its 21w for brights and 5 for regular).

the small 168 bulb in the strip will be fine as its always on with headlights.

LEDs are 0 heat; no issues.

 

The work isn't all that bad, but involves re-routing some wires. I think you might like this type of effect. I made bulbs for my cousin's Civic. It lights up white at night, and the amber portion lights up when he uses his signals.

 

yea, the wiring isnt a problem, its just finding a dual filament socket to put in the single filaments spot. found out that the 7443 socket size wise will fit, but the two tabs on the side wont line up, so it wont go completely into the headlight shell. im probably just gonna dremel those two tabs off and make it fit...only problem now, is to find a 7443 socket...
