Question on PPW paint?
I have a 04 PPW roadster and my car has been in the shop for about 3 and half weeks now. Im having them put the INGS half kit on and all the body work is done. the reason why its taking them so long is because their having problems matching the paint. Has anyone else come across this problem? Does anyone have any ideas on how to match this color? well it should be done this weekend..

My PPW Z is in the bodyshop right now on its second attempt at getting the color right. They tried to give me the car and it was horrible. Very little if no pearl at all. I'll have to call them about the PPG paint.

I thought they had to use Dupont? Dose anyone have any confirming remarks? Especially Zivman, and Bubble. With daytona blue the color on my wing looks perfect, however at some angles *b/c I'm anol* it looks off.
Can you guys tell me what your 'secrets' to paint match are? Hit me up on pm if you could about which companies to use for the base/clear, etc.

I had a few cans of ppw white and pearl mixed up for my strut bar and speaker box and it looks great but I don't have any pieces that are right next to original paint so who knows how close it is.
One thing I did notice while painting it. The color looks like it has a blue tint to it until you lay on the pearl, then it changes to off white. Very strange.
This is the one reason I have not bought a spoiler for my car, I just can't deal with sending things back over and over again or having it not right.

I had my roof repainted after the shop light spool fell on it. (erg!)
The guy said that it's really three coats, white, silver, then clear.
Mine is a little off but it's hard to notice because it's on a different angle than the other panels.
It could use a little more silver.

This is NOT true. Any paint can give 100% match, any paint can be off. Mixing colors is not just a factor of the right brand. There are a lot of variables that come into play; the brand of paint is only one of them.
There is skill involved in getting the color to match. You don't just throw in the paint code, have the machine mix the paint and go on your way. You need to spray test panels, compare the flop, then when you get the color right, you need to make sure the clear doesn't impact the color in anyway...like lighten it , or darken it. You are mixing a lot of things together when matching paint: base, color, pearl, sometimes flake, and then you are clearing it after everything is done. All the while you need to make sure that the color looks the same on FRP (for bodykits), as it does on PP (oem bumper and side skirt material), as it does on sheet metal and aluminum.
All that said, you may get lucky and your shop may only have to throw in the paint code and the machine may spit out the exact color. this isn't always the case. Just take a look at the car stock, not all the panels match 100% from the factory, so you know it isn't just a wham bam easy paint mix and spray.
