Default Lighting Mods - And a Couple of Brief Questions

Well, I had a good look around on the forums and I decided that I didn't want to go with LED's. But, I was sick of looking at the yellow parking lights and the orange reflection from the turn signals. So here's what I just ordered:

Eurolite 194 Xenon Crystal (hyperwhite parking / license plate / trunk lights)

Eurolite 3175 Xenon Crystal (hyperwhite map lights)

Eurolite Xenon Crystal H7 (hyperwhite high beams)

Pilot 7440 Amber Chrome (silvered turn signal bulbs)

Pilot 7440 White Chrome (silvered reverse lights - should have HID color temp hopefully)

Just one question to whomever has installed bulbs to the headlight assembly before:

1. Can you do the install without removing the front wheels? I haven't tried taking the fender lining off yet, but it seems like if you turn the steering wheel all the way inward, you should be able to get to the bulb assembly.

2. DOES ANYONE know where to get hyperwhite vanity mirror lights?

That's it! I'll post some night pics when the bulbs come and I install them. I'm hoping I am satisfied with the color of the bulbs (gulp) especially since I've NEVER heard of "Pilot" brand bulbs before. However, from the pictures, the pilot bulbs seem pretty good quality. Who knows?

FYI I ordered from cardomain.com, they seem to be a pretty reliable vendor I hope... at least their website isn't all shady like some I've seen.

One more question:

Is anyone still selling clear side markers for the front bumper that light up with hyperwhite LEDs? How easy is the install on these? (Where do you tap into the wires?)

Not a problem - it is very easy if you have a very short phillips driver.

BTW: It was very hard for me because I do not have a short driver.

Son of a b!tch... www.sylvania.com gave the wrong bulb # for the map light.

I ordered a 3175 (as per the sylvania website) but I needed a 3022... d'oh!

I should've searched the forums more... god ****n damn it.

you can do it without removing the wheel. you pretty much have to jack up the car still; but removing the tire isnt required. its a bit more convenient, but not required.

+1 what Ares said,

I do all the headlight and bumper removals without pulling the tire off, it is a tight fit but can be done and def saves time. I recomend pulling two screws that hold the bumper to the skid/aero dynamic plate to alow better room and keep you from messing up the plastic fender lining.

Well I did the install .... mostly.

I had to take the wheels off, no other choice (using the stock jack, lol...time to buy a real jack and jack stands...) Maybe it can be done without taking them off, just not by me.

The amber turn signals did not fit in the harness properly, and the electrical connection was flaky... so I will have to dremel their plastic bases to fit better. I was about to do this, then my dremel ran out of battery, so I'm gonna have to attempt this again tomorrow or something.

Reviews:

I am pretty disappointed with the quality of the Pilot bulbs, they have some kind of cheap silver paint on the bulbs I think. Plus, they still transmit a little bit of amber which reflects in the headlight housing. They look alright, but they could be much better.

The Eurolite wedge bulbs (194 bulb) are excellent. Great match on the HID color, perfect fitment... I couldn't be happier. IMO it is totally worth it to replace your parking lights with these, it will make the headlights look much cleaner when they're on. My trunk looks nicer too... I can't wait for my maplights to come in.

The Eurolite H7 Xenon Crystal are pointless... they seem to have the exact same color as stock high-beams (halogen color). They might be a LITTLE whiter, but definitely not the HID color I was looking for. I REALLY didn't want to have to buy expensive PIAA bulbs, but I might just do it if I can get the right color that I want. For now, they're fine - they add a slight hint of blue to the headlight housing when they're off, so that's a bonus. But I still have those ugly amber bulbs in there

yeah alot of the 7440 bulbs have like little wedges on the base. for whatever reason they dont fit in the Z. gotta grind it smooth, or close to it.

stock jack should be fine; gotta get the suspension let out; any more than that and it wouldnt matter what jack you were using.

Not sure what you mean by this... am I hurting the suspension to use the stock jack? "Gotta get the suspension let out..." what does that mean exactly?

just getting the tire off the ground; eventually it the piston will be all the way out and the tire will lift off the ground; at that point theres no more clearance that can be had in the wheel well.

stock jack is well within the range to get the tire off the ground; just as you would if changing a flat tire or something.

Ah, I see. Yeah, it seemed like it took a million cranks to get it up off the ground, but it wasn't hard or anything.

Can anyone PM me with some detailed instructions on how to change a light bulb? I have searched though maybe not good enough and this is the closest I've come to reading how to change the headlight bulbs. Pic would be nice also.
