I'm a cop in Texas and we call that kind of ticket a chicken***t ticket. It does give me probable cause to stop a car but I only do that if I'm really bored (3AM kind of thing) or it looks like they've been drinking. But never a ticket just for the front tag.

Well I think we can expect more aggressive chickenshiat ticketing as it seems to be increasingly prevalent. I think they do this in support of traffic light cameras; they prefer pictures of the driver's face and the license plate in the same photograph.

i only got 1 licence plate also on the back
i simply made a super high quality photo copy of my plate in actual size.
had it heavy laminated, and put it behind a licence plate protetor,
yet theres no reflective material for photo equipment hehe
so far so good!!
cannot tell the difference unless you are about 1' away, even put the expiration sticker on it!! work well on the dash too (flexes a little) to fit
many cops have been behind me, pulled over not even questioned.

Now im thinking of just giving in and putting it on, but is there something out there that is like a detachable front license plate mount that i can just hook on or take off? What do you guys do?

Ok,
Here is the info I promised.
Go to the home depot and get the following:
1) Buy 1 M16 Bolt, length 1.5 inches
2) Buy 2 M16 Nut, this will tighten the bolt to the boss and the strap to the head of the bolt.
3) Need a piece of aluminum, I got a piece from work and bend it in a U shape so that you can clear the head of the bolt, while giving you a lip to fasten the licence plate to.
4) It take a little time, but you can make it work.
I personally didn't like the look of it in that location, so I am driving with front plates again. I found that it takes away from the look of the car.
Sorry for the wait, I was trying a new design, but that didn't work as well.

Its actually up to the officer. Some say that suction cups attachhed to the inner windshield with the plate is enough to suffice "affixed" to the front of the vehicle. Others wont let it slide.

i use a z-bracket but i dont mount it the "bucktooth" way. i put the plate up so that it's halfway on the grill and halfway on the bumper. of course, it looks kinda ghey from the side but i can live with it.

2 zip ties + grill = done and done. i have mine mounted to the OEM bracket that i hacksawed in half and mount the plate with 2 screws. on the driver's side of the grill to keep the grill open. looks decent.

If you got the ticket in L.A., you can actually send in a photo of your car with the front license plate mounted and a check for the ticket. My friend used double sided tape, and he has done a couple times already. This will at least save you the trouble of taking the car for inspection and really mounting the plate.
