Got a friend of mine that will be getting a carbon fiber deck lid for his car. He has a CF hood and I am trying to talk him into painting the roof of the car to match. Problem is, I don't know the specifics of painting a CF pattern.
I saw them do it on RIDES with the Ford Expedition that Chris Titas was doing for his wife. It basically entails laying out some sort of webbing and painting layers, but was hoping some one had first hand knowledge of how this is done.

painting a CF pattern?
you might as well just lay carbon on the roof .. it'll be alot easier than painting it...
they have the carbon look weave/plastic stuff but it looks super ghey in comparison to real carbon especially if his hood and deck lid are going to be carbon.
i think mastergrade sells the roof for the Z...

He currently has a CF hood, grill, and front lip. he would be getting a CF trunk lid so the entire center/top portion of his car would be dark/CF. On the Z, this wouldn't be as appealing since the hatch sides would be CF, not just the center portion

Spend the money
It would cost about 30 bucks for the paint + our time. It's nice to have a bodyman/painter in the family. If it doesn't look like we expected, we can easily paint it back. The car may not be your taste, but most everything done to the car is done right and most would consider it tasteful - though that is subjective as not everyone likes carbon fiber.

if you really want a tight weave pattern go buy some screen for a screen door or screen windows and use that to paint the pattern on....
Spray a few layers of grey.....then lay the screen on top of that once it dries and spray a few layers of black....it will give you that effect of CF.....but if you can find a CF roof overlay that would look better since you may get some overspray of the black that would get rid of the grey lines.....

there was this m3 on the show scene with a carbon roof, hood and trunk.. it looked sick...
imho i think it would look good.. it was something i was contemplating... since i got so much exposed CF..
