Default Hydraulic front hood opener ??

I see a zillion mods for the Z but there is one that I can not imagine that no one makes or anyone has asked about.

I am talking about a hydraulic opener for the front hood to replace the cheapo metal bar.

I have searched mynismo.com and utlimatez.com for this but with no sucess.

This is not for speed or even for looks but simply for convenience as well as something that belongs on a high end automobile like the Z.

Everytime I open the hood to check the oil, I end up grumbling because I have to fish for that metal rod which holds the hood open.

Don't laugh but one time, I was in a hurry and did not have it set right and you guessed it - I got bonked on the head by the hood.

So, does anyone know where I can buy one?

Thanks

Isn't it just a hood damper?

Like SR71 said, Tein sells them....

Here's the link off of performance Nissan:

Good thing the Z's hood is aluminum. Anything off a late 90's model car would have taken you out cold.

Thanks for the link. I wonder how these would look (and work) on the Z?

The picture on the website is NOT the engine bay of a Z. I wonder what car that is. I would assume a Maxima but it is surprising to see that the Maxima would have that body tightening cross strut.

They also do not have that factory look - really looks like an add-on.

The Red picture is my car and the white one is from that website.

Thanks. I read the posts over there about this.

From that forum:

" the install was very involved when it came to trimming the plastic. the struts themselves were fairly simple. but making the plastic trim look nice was a challenge. i spent about 6 hours in total."

I think I will keep hunting for something that is more straightforward to install.

it looks like you have to remove the battery and brake fluid covers to install the tein ones.

how much are the ones that mount to the fenders?

That car in the pic is definitely a Z, just has the back plastic panel removed and is a RH drive car.

Between the entire back of the engine compartment exposed as well as the wiper blades going the opposite way, it sure did not look like a Z.

If you have to remove the battery and brake fluid covers to install the Tein model then I will stick with the mechanical bar since the engine bay looks like heck.

If you have to take all the covers off like in the picture on the website and the screen snapshot I took of it a few posts past, I would cancel that order.

The engine bay looks like one from a 1982 chevy nova

Apparently NOT.

I went to that website and searched on 'group buy' and found the discussion and pictures of those hood mounts.

Key phrase I read was this:

"These are the ones made by 350znt over at Motoring."
