Default 05 Stock Floormats Low Quality?

My '05 Z's driver's side floormat already has a substantial wear spot from where my clutch heel rests on the floor. Its like the carpet fibers have worn away in this one spot. I bought my Z in March and have only put about 5,500 miles on it. It seems a little early to have such wear. Has anyone else had this problem (ie all the stock Z floormats are cheesy) or do I have some reject driver's side floormat? My '98 Maxima with 113,000 miles doesn't even show close to this much wear in the equivalent spot. Thanks, Rich

You could order these. They seem to address the problem. I wish I could find some of the rubber mats I bought for my Pathfinder. Like these:

So is the OEM floormat really that low in quality then?

I have an 03 w/ high mileage (70k). There's pretty much a hole in my mat. Just to let you know what's down the road for you guys ;-)

Any chance Nissan would cover this under extended warranty? Seems like excessive wear, and the fact that they re-designed it shows that the initial design was bad. Hmm.. maybe I'll give it a shot. It's unlikely tho.

Early model 05 here, and no rubber heal guard, wore a hole through the drivers side mat in only 11,000 miles....

OK, That clinches it...cheesy floormat. I think I'll try to fix it first by adding my own rubber section (maybe even in the shape of a Z or something!) That ought to add about 5 Hp . Thanks for the responses. Rich

Agree. I have 34,000 miles on the OEM floor mats. I rotate the mats from drivers to passenger side, and also put them on the floor upside down (for more even wear). They are vacuumed and washed regularly. Despite my care, its time for a new set because of the wear spots. I’m shopping for something else rather than the OEM mats.

I have an '04 Z with about 19k miles and my driver side mats are worn. I have 2 bald spots, one by the clutch and another by the gas pedal. Apparently nissan is aware of the problem if now they added a heel guard to their OEM mats. A little too late for me. The passenger side is almost brand new.

don't feel bad, I was shaking out my drivers side floormat on my 03 and it ripped in half. Seriously, no joke. Another thumbs up for Nissan.

The later version of the Z floor mats that started appearing mid 2005 have the heal guard for the drivers side...

This also goes for the NISMO mats...

When purchasing the NISMO mats on our web site you get the new version...

The 05 matts are also listed on our web site as well as the 35th anniversary.. save a few bux there too....
