I have researched but there is no clear answer on what EXACTLY needs to be done for an HID converison onto the Z.
To start off i will be buying the Mcculloch kit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3000K...13500731QQrdZ1
-I'm looking for an H7 / D2R bulb correct?
-Is this STRAIGHT plug and play? No drilling, cutting etc. whatsoever?
-The bulb will fit the stock connecter on the headlight?
That's all i need to know, any help would be awesome.

DO NOT BUY McCullochs. IT IS DIM. The OEM kit is better. Come to think of it, I'll sell u mine for cheap if you want. I have the 6k kit. Used for 2 weeks and took them out. POS. I got the OEM kit but the light pattern on the floor sucks. Gonna get the 06 housing and HIDS now.
IMO:
I bought the MeccaTune RED STAR kit, which has Hella Ballast. Its an 8300K kits, more blueish light. But in comparison to stock base Halogens, its about 95% better. 5000-6000k HID bulbs have the best output from what i read. But, my 8300k are PREFECT IMO.
What you will need?
The base Halogens are H7's, you will need a H7 retrofit kit. Try to go with a Hella Balast, and a Phillips bulbs. Like i said, ive had my MeccaTune Red Sun kit for almost 1 yr 1 month, without any fading, dimming, or lose of color/brightness.
I believe this is the guy i got it from:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/880-9...spagenameZWDVW
Now he offering 6000k which is nice.
Good luck

Any current aftermarket HID conversion kit should work with the Base Z headlight housing....i had my Base Z converted not too long ago and it is still working fine. It was a direct plug and play...hooks up directly to your existing H7 low beam plug for power. You need to find a place to adhere the ballast and the igniter. Some newer kits only come with the ballast and you don't need to find room for the igniter. i ordered mine from superhids.com and they ship overnight. My 5300k H7 is ultra white and you might have to adjust the headlights to get a better light pattern on the ground. BTW, you might have to drill a 3/4" hole on the plastic covers. Good luck and enjoy.
I installed the McCulloch 8000K HID Kit from ebay and they are the best. They do require a hole to be drilled in the plastic cover to run the wire out to the Ballast and Starter. And you will need to re aim them after the install. I have had four sets of these bulbs in different vehicles and think that they are the best.
Good luck.
Good luck.
speaking from someone stuck with an aftermarket HID kit that has crapped out and is only about 1 1/2 yrs old I strongly recommend figuring out a way to get ahold of Jun or just buying an OEM setup yourself.
try jlevisw.com when i used to have my bmw, i got all my lighting from him. he doesnt have the kit on his site but if you call him he will get it for you.
I have the McCulloch 6000k HID kit on my 2004 base 350Z for almost 2 years and they work great IMO. I have attached some pictures of the kit compared to the stock lighting below. And installation of these kits is plug and play except for the 3/4" hole drilled through the plastic headlight cover.

I hear exceptional and bad things(bulbs/balasts blowing within a year) about the Mcculloch kit. Bottom line i do believe most of the time you get what you pay for and OEM reliability tops them all.
