Painting brake calipers
I'd like to match my calipers to the color of my car. Is there a paint I can buy at Home Depot, etc. rather than buying a bunch of the touch up pens and "writing" over the calipers? My car is Pikes Peak White QX1. I'm assuming that using spray paint is better than brush application?

Spray is the way to go. Make sure the paint you get can withstand at least 900 degrees, preferably 1200 degrees. Don't know if you'll find an exact match, but some sort of off-white should be available. Touch up paint will melt off, don't use them.

Very good point davidv. My rims are black after just a few days of driving. Can anyone suggest a different color than white that will match nicely and won't be covered by brake dust in a matter of days?

i would just say don't do it...i think our small calipers look fine with a aluminum finish, anything else just draws attention where attention doesn't need to be drawn.

I have to paint mine, the back right's finish is coming off. :-/
Do you guys actually follow the directions on the caliper paint that says not to drive your car for 24 hours or do you just wait till it's dry?

disregard the paint on the back of the pad flaking. ive autoXed and tracked my car this whole year with outtouching them up.
if you have a wide spoke gap like my LMg's you can spray them and touch them up easily. or if you want to be cautious just spray the paint on the tip of a brush and do it like that.
i promise you , go and buy the engine paint and youll be happy with it.

I would get the powdercoated if you are looking for a long term setup. I painted my calipers myself previously, and they just don't look nearly as good as the ones I got powdercoated. The paint seems to get duller every month on the DIY paint. I would recommend getting them powdercoated by mike here. He does a great job and has a core exchange so there isn't any downtime. His username here is 2003z. Good luck on your brakes!

Painted caliper never look good in my opinion, they look just that, painted. The finish isnt smooth, its always pitted. But they do make paint specifically for calipers, check the paint section at autozone or pepboys, brush on works the best, it lays out smooth and you dont see brush marks. Ive had to do a few for customers at work.

This is what I used
The G2 BRAKE Caliper PaintSystem Set adds a high-gloss color touch to your car's appearance, helping alloy wheels to better stand out, while adding protection by sealing the calipers from dangerous oils and chemicals.
The PaintSystem Sets are available in eight high-gloss, wear-resistant colors that can be selected to complement or contrast a vehicle’s primary and/or accent colors. Available colors include: Red, Yellow, Blue, Silver, Gold, Black, Purple, Green and White.
