If it's the OEM bumper it's all one piece but with careful trimming you can remove it.

I cut mine out.. use a dremel and be very patient.. I left the bumper on while doing it.. just be careful around the tow hook area.. there is a wire back there.. I think it's the thermometer or an airbag sensor..

Do you have any problems with rocks and stuff getting into your intercooler now?

No problems with mine. I used a new utility knife blade and carefully cut it out. Took about 5 minutes and the cut is very clean.

I spray some WD40 on it occasionally so it won't oxidize over time as easily...

I heard the early, early 2003 models you were able to remove the grill by unscrewing a couple of screws because it was not molded to the bumper. Can anyone confirm?

^ i have a '03 (although it may not be an early '03) and i didn't have screws attached. mine was attached to the bumper and i had to cut it out.

i also painted the tow hook section black so it would be so noticable.

Whoops, I went back to check the conversation I had it it is the yeo side panels on either side of the grill that you can unscrew off. Not the grill itself.
