Default To tint or not to tint...

Ok, so I'm in Houston and have not yet tinted my '03 CS Track Z and wondering if I should. Wouldn't think twice about it, as I like the look and benefits, but there is also a good chance I'll be moving to San Diego in a year. What exactly are the tint laws there? Would I have to remove it? CAN I remove it? I've heard that removing tint from the rear window can be hazardous to the defroster element. What to do???

I also have a set of Bat's tail light overlays sitting in the garage awaiting application. Would these look bad with the windows not tinted and the 3rd brake light blazing in all it's untinted glory?

in CA, you can't tint the window too dark. If any PD can't see you through the window, they will give you a "fix" ticket. BUT many of us still tint it anyway. we just roll the window down when we see cops.

Hmm, how dark is too dark? Legal limit here is 35%, so that's what I would get.

Texas is actually 25% and California is 70% on front windows and anything goes for the rear windows and the rear glass. Info found here: http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Law_Chart/S...aw%20Chart.htm

35% tint all the way. Maybe go 20% on the hatch because of the silver on the strut bar

Huh, I've always heard 35% for TX... maybe that's what they put since factory windows have a slight tint to them and the sum comes out to 24%?

Ok, guess I'll go ahead and do it; think I'll go with 35% regardless of what the max allowed is; that's always what I've had before and was happy with that percentage. Any recommendations of tint type/brand? I want metalized (not to be confused with metallic) so it won't fade, and as little reflectivity as possible; want it nice and black looking. I want good optical clarity as well, but not too expensive; I'd like to get it done for $150 or less.

If you're using or need a radar detector think twice about metalic tint.

Depends, is your car going to stay registered in Texas? I know for us Military, if you have a car from out of state (out of CA) they're not going to bother checking the laws from that state. As well as having a front plate. From what I understand, CA law does say, unless it comes from the factory (very light tint)that way, it is illegal to tint your driver, passenger windows and windshield. As for the rear 3, you can go as dark as you want.

I can't believe everyone doesn't automatically get their windows tinted. I lived in Kingsville, TX and I remember how hot it got there, probably just as hot in Houston, tinting helps tremendously with this.

I'm even more suprised that California has such cr4p laws about moding cars. Cali is the HOME of American modding!

don't think that just because you are military that you are free to go!! on my old nissan with 20% and a front tint strip, i got pulled over in VA. the car had FL plates, and i had FL regerstered with FL and insured in FL. the little bastard had that device to measure the tint and wrote me a ticket! i didn't care though. the ticket was 90 bucks, so i just payed it. VA has some of the toughest laws that i have ever heard of. 45% on the front windows and 35% on the rear. it took over 3 years for a cop to hit me on it to. so i agree with these guys, get what you want and say screw the 5.0!!
