What is this?
I was reading STLZ post on 4 point seat belt harnesses and decided to see where one Member attached a 3 point system. Well, when i removed the trunk mat, i found this hook on the passenger side. It aligns perfectly with the middle of the passenger seat. Could this be a possible attachment point? And why only the passenger side?
Could some check their car to see if they have one on both side or only on the passenger.

Isn't it illegal to place child seats in the front seat of a car? Why would nissan even put hooks there since its totally illegal.
This isn't some stupid law either like why are radar detectors still made when they are illegal all over the place etc. This is for public safetly. Children in a child seat arn't supposed to be in the front seat of a vehicle.
I don't kno what its for - but bottom line, Magic 8 ball says - Not for a Child Seat

To properly affix the shoulder harness, you should use a static bar that goes across the back of the seats. A roll cage has this part designed into it. In my A4 I had a bar in the trunk, under the rear package shelf.
Or, bolt it to the floor with the approved hardware from the harness manufacturer. When bolting into the sheet metal you have to place a plate about two inch square on either side of the mounting hole. This provides the support needed to hold you in the car if you crash. Otherwise, you will rip the bolt right through the metal.

Sorry, manuals out in the car but if you search around behind the passenger seat you will find it. Might be behind the speaker wall or under that suspension bar, near the release for the hatchback. It does recommend having a switch so that you can turn off the passenger airbag.

Audito350Z...thanks. I'm in the process of figuring out what is required for the harness anchor from Sparco. I hope it's not to hard to do. I can't weld anything. Plus, i'm nervous taking it to a shop for them to ' try it out'.
More than likely think i'll just have to wait until the NISMO kit comes out. I saw a picture of the NISMO Z and it had a 4 point harness system.
Time will tell.

Sparco is good stuff. I had two of their 3" four-point belts in my Audi A4 and used them at the track exclusively. When I bought the belts, I also bought the install kits. These included the eye-bols to allow me to clip in the shoulder harness.
Before I bought the harness bar, I used the rear seat belt anchor point for the eye-bolts. Sparco makes them to use the OEM mounting holes. Very convenient.
I did find the harness bar made the shoulder belts fit better.
There may be some way to mount a bar under the rear cross-mount. Or, maybe wrap the belt around the rear cross mount!
Who knows.... you are right. Only time will tell.

Now my major problem with having that tie hook there....
1) Nissan has shown blatent disregard for the vehicle saftey laws by adding that bracket.
2) Why should someone be driving a "sports" car with a child young enough to require the safety seat?
3) They put that bracket there, yet felt it was unsafe to have auto roll-up feature on the windows be controlled from the remote? Perhaps it was to prevent the young child in the safety seat in the front seat of the car from getting their tiny little fingers caught in the window as it rolls up while the child is still inside the vehicle while the adult is outside?

I can't imagine there wouldn't be exceptions. If the law is as you say, you couldn't have a kid in a single bench pickup or any 2 seat sports car?

Man, government as nanny law making is annoying.

it's not illegal to have a child seat in the car if your vehicle has an airbag shut off. My single cab Ford Ranger had a switch to turn off the airbag. Then you could have the child seta in the front. I don't know about particular state laws but if your vehicle has the switch, then your good.
i would recommend a bcr harness bar. www.bcrltd.net High quality, dont really notice it for daily driving.

Children can sit in the front of cars, as long as the baby seat is rearward facing. If NISSAN is to blame, why do you even own one?

As for comment #2... that's just plain ignorance... what makes this car different than a car with back seats if you need to take your baby to a doctor or with you to pick a few things up from the store? Nothing about the car makes it less safe aside from a driver's attitude/driving style while he's in it. Just because you don't need to, don't knock on someone else who does.
And just to note, nissan does mention in the user's manual that you have to get a switch installed to turn off the passenger's front airbag to install the child seat.
