Default Removing the Rear Wiper

Hey folks...

I just picked my car up from the dealer's body shop because they were fixing some paint damage that occurred while the car was in transit from Japan. Anyway, when I got to the dealer I inspected the paint and everything was to my satisfaction, so I went on my way. Then while I am driving, I noticed that my rearward view was more obstructed than usual, and I realized that the rear wiper was laying across the window (from side to side of the car) instead of its normal position (along the length of the car). Those morons took off the wiper and put it back on 90 degrees from where it should go! The paint damage was on the hatch, so they had to remove the wiper and glass to repaint the entire thing.

So obviously now if I turn on my rear wiper, it will trill to sweep toward the rear of the car and either scrape along the rear deck, or burn the motor up if it can't get up over the weather stripping. Anyway, I need to take the wiper off and put it back in its normal position, but I can't find anything in the owner's manual telling/showing how to accomplish that. Can anyone give me some insight on this one?

NOTE: It is not an issue of the wiper blades being installed incorrectly (I can handle that...), it is the entire wiper arm assembly.

Thanks...

Steve

Just unscrew the nut on the bottom of the arm, pop it off and but it in position and screw it back in. Its really that easy, Nissan did the same damn thing to me, I tell you what else it doesnt make them seem like rocket Scientists does it.

Thanks for the quick reply...

I just went back out to my car to look for that nut...can't seem to find it. Where exactly on the wiper arm is it? Down by the pivot point? And I am assuming it's a very small black hex nut?

Thanks again!

You probably have to take off the cap on the end of the wiper arm to see it. Just a guess.

You cant miss it, just pop off the cap where the wiper meets the body of the car.

It seemed to sweep back and forth as intended without making any strange noises, so hopefully it is ok. I am just hoping that I didn't damage anything in the wiper mechanism when I rotated the arm, but chances are good that it broke friction between the wiper arm thru hole and the shoulder on the pivot stud before it damaged the motor mechanism. I guess time will tell.

Thanks for the help guys!

Steve- How easy was it to find everything? I'm considering taking the whole damn thing off myself.

It was simple to find the nut and take it off, and I guess if I had spent enough time tugging on the thing it would have popped right off the mounting post. As far as removing it, you would have to take out the plastic lining on the inside of the hatch to get to the mechanism, and I think someone above posted a link with instructions for doing that. I was also considering removing it and putting a cap or something to fill in the empty space.

Shouldn't take more than an hour or so including painting the plug.

Yep, it comes in black nylon. Use some exterior black silicone adhesive around the hole prior to installation. In that way you will make sure that no water or dust get in your car around the plug.

I painted mine with a cheap spray can. Came out looking great. Metal flakes and all.

I'm gonna have to agree and say just take it off and leave it. If you polish your glass with whatever you use on your paint it'll work like rain-x(without that damn residue). There's no need for a wiper back there...

You can try this for free: https://my350z.com/forum/exterior-and-interior/153918-rear-wiper-removal-new-cover-found.html
Since you have a black car, you might not even have to paint it.
