2006 Interior

2006 Interior
Well, after a couple days of trying to make the 2003 cubby fit, I'm sad to say there's really no way without major modification to the dash and cubby, to make it fit.
So unfortunately the experiment was a failure. It happens sometimes. But it'll mean I'll have to go with the doorless 06 nav cubby.
I'll still post up some how-to's on 2006 dash/interior panel removal, but sorry to say I won't be able to post a 2003-2006 cubby conversion.

14 straight hours of dremeling, plastic welding, fitting, sanding, fitting, sanding, cursing, drinking, and fitting and sanding:
http://idisk.mac.com/adams80/Public/cubby.mpg
The ONLY known 2003-2006 cuby conversion to date.
Uses parts from the 2006 including where it mounts to the dash, the lid, and the locking mechanism
AND
Uses parts from the 2003 including the sliding mechanizm and sliding brackets.
THUS CREATING:
Brundlefly! The kick ars 2006 cubby that slides back on mechanical ribbon pulley (as seen in 2003 models) and (will) have the space for a 7" xenarc with molded controls... all for that smooth stealthy look.
I was going to post a huge *** how-to as I went but it was work enough just to make the thing. If I was taking pics the whole time it would've only taken longer.
2003-2006 conversions are now possible. Case closed. Experiment: Success.

Here's a pic (kinda blurry... I think my camera's broken) with the controls molded in. Ofcoarse it'll all be color-matched once it's done. I just have a little more shaping and sanding before it gets primered/painted. And ofcoarse the lid won't need painting now 'cause it uses the stock one.

I will be happy to answer as many questions as you've got on this, but I'm not sure I'll be able to make a How-to on it. Fact is, I used so many parts from so many different things, the 2006 cubby, the 2003 cubby, the case froma farenheit monitor, the control panels from a xenarc screen, some rrandom plastic from some old interior panels and so much sanding cutting fitting and refitting that at this point I don't think I could even acurately describe all the steps.
I'll say that two products: Dremel and Plastic Welder were the true hero's of this project.
