Default A bit confused...

I posted a few days ago asking whether or not I should have the Nismo spoiler taped on, you all answered with a resounding "No".

I asked this because the shop I went to wanted to tape it on, and not drill, saying that it would hold, I went ahead and got it taped, to at least see if it would hold well (which it seems to be doing) and how good it would look ( I love it)...

I then remembered how EVERYONE on the forum seemed to think I was a retard for even asking whether or not I should drill it...

So i went to M1 Autobody which would be a more reputable shop that does Z's and such all the time, and which im sure a ton of members here have been to, or at least Performance Nissan. They told me not to worry, and that the tape would hold just fine, but if I were to still want to have it bolted on, they would do it.

Now... I feel more safe because of this, but im also a bit confused as to why everyone thinks its SO unsafe. I bugged jmcmorante about it a bit, he said that when he got his wing installed, the bolts fell off after a bit and his wing was just taped on (which they found out when the spoiler was taken off)... so it did hold for at least jmcmorante. He also told me that a lot of other Z owners he talked to had the same problem, that the bolts would either loosen or fall out after a bit of driving.

Now... bolting it on will cost me another $100 most likely, woulf you guys still think it would be best to have it bolted on or to leave it taped on knowing all this i just told you?

I'd find out why bolts are falling off cars first.

Well on mines th ebolts fell after the install was done at Seidners Collision Center in Duarte, Ca. Appearently they made bigger hioles than necessary so the screws fell right through. I had to get my hatch redone when my nismo was taken off for the install of my new wing!

Personally I would want it to be bolted down. If you ever plan on going over 100MPH it will have a better chance to fly off!! Thats a lot of pressure on a spoiler at speeds over 80MPH.

100 bucks to get it bolted on or

500 BUcks for a new spoiler....

I think the tape will hold. This isn't your garden variety tape, it is specifically designed to preform a task just such as this. My brother has a 92 maxima that had the spolier taped on, we had to pry the thing off last year. It was very difficult to get off. He has driven 120+ a lot, so I think it can stay on with tape.

You just said you "think" it would stay i understand that a doublesided tape can be strong but my point is how comfortable are you with it.

Obviously if this guy came on here and is asking our opinion than he is not SECURE with his decision and there fore should make sure he makes the most comfortable decision possible.

Plus when it gets warmer it will heat up the tape and will make it more vulnerable to come off. EVERY stock spoiler i have seen has been screwed in!

But whatever this is this guys option, just remember if it blows off when your racing on the highway or something dont come on here and put a post about how it blew off, because you will get Hosed Bad!!!

I don't see why you'd risk it, its only $100. If you can't afford to have it done properly don't buy the spoiler.

Its not just the $100 im worried about, if i end up taking off the spoiler it would also be the cost of the holes which would be around $400 to fix. $500 is a lot of money no matter how you look at it.

The spoiler seems to be holding up fine.

Unfortunately that is the cost of putting on an aftermarket spoiler. Bottom line is that the tape ain't gonna cut it. Do it right, or don't do it at all. You have to remember that the tape may or may not hold it. 99% of spoilers are not held on by tape. There is a reason for this. $500 is nothing when you think about what might happen if it came off. Besides destroying the spoiler, you could endanger other drivers and/or destroy other vehicles. Think about it.
