1100 for paint prep install?
is 1100 too much to pay for my body kit's paint prep and install costs? i talked to the guy and asked him why so many other places quoted around 600 and he said he was going to use the three stage european paint system, etc. and that he doesnt allow anything to leave his shop that isnt show quality, so he costs more but he guarantees his work. its selling me, but i dont know if it should be. is the acrylic or enamel or whatever other paint these other guys would be using really that bad? i know you get what you pay for, but if what im paying for with a 600 dollar paint job is pretty good then i dont really want to spend twice that. thoughts? thanks

depends on the fitment of the kit.... I paid for 10 hours of prep work..sanding and all that before the kit was painted...I ended up paying 1200 I think(had other work done) and it was a good job....not great tho....hehe

well first lets get some things cleared up. Now a dayz they dont use acrylic enamel on cars anylonger since urethane showed up on the scene. so if they tell u theyre using acrylic, they are not telling u the truth. Second, is ur kit a replica kit? basically why they are charging you soo much is because of the prep work. Prep works takes the longest part of the painting process since low spots, waves, dings, etc all need to be filled, sanded, primered and sanded again, and this is where the most expesive stuff is being used, i.e lots of materials/time. The paint you need to tell them to use, even though most good shops use it is PPGs DBU base coat series. PPG promises the best in quality and paint match to oem colors with their dbu series paints, and ive heard rumors that ppg is the stock paint used on the zs.
So provided that ur kit is a replica, 1300 for prep and paint + mount sounds very fair to me given that they will probably have to spend a total of like 15+ hours on it. Any more questions dont hesitate to ask.

well here's the update guys, i went there and met him in person, and then i took a tour of his shop and the back area with the garage... he showed me various cars with different age paint jobs - all done by him. He showed me a vette with a 17yr old paint job that looks barely aged (and 17 years ago was before the great new paint systems). then i asked him how the car show he and his boys went to this weekend and he showed me pictures along with his three first place finishes from this weekend alone. i then gave him my keys and left
for those of you who are local to the DFW area, Steve's Paint and Body on Jacksboro Highway is the place. I'll post pictures of the finish product when I get it back
