Default Are CF Hoods Rice?

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_burner

CF hoods are rice. I was just wondering what some of you thought about cf hoods. I am getting a new z, a white one, and was thinking of adding a cf hood. I only do mods that will increase performance in some way. I have never cared about looks or how the exhaust sounds.

So how much weight reduction will you see with a cf hood over stock?

I've always thought the definition of rice was adding parts to a car that affected appearance, and not performance. If you lose 10lbs w/ a CF hood then by definition, it's not rice.

most of the carbon fiber hoods are just as heavy if not heavier than the stock aluminum hoods... .unless you get a dry carbon fiber hood but then that'll be $$$$.$$

Oh, I thought the whole point of getting a cf hood was weight reduction. My current car is a vw, over on the vortex forums I frequent its been mentioned that you save some weight with almost any cf hood, thought that would be true for available Z options as well.

I personally do not like the look of them on if it was MY car. Even if it slightly enchanced the performance, i would not want it. If you look at it from my perspective, it looks like putting a primered fender on a good looking car. As menstioned above, some people think it looks great.

Yes, they are rice, and ESPECIALLY if unpainted.

I think they look out of place on a stock body Z. On a Z with wheels and a body kit it can be managed, but on an otherwise stock Z it looks ghey...

Paint's got nothing to do with it. It's rice if it does nothing to increase performance. If there's not a substantial weight reduction, I'm comfortable with labeling it a rice addon. I'm mainly curious to know what the actual weight numbers are for the available replacement hoods. I've been doing some searching on this today, but haven't found to much inregards to actual specs.

I agree. It is not rice if it flows well with other visial mods.

It is a bit different with the Z's as the hood is aluminum.

You really should clarify whether you mean a vented or non vented carbon hood.

Some people dont even get the hood for weight purposes, as stated above the hood is already light.

Unpainted CF could look rice depending on the color of the car. I would personally paint it.

I have a vented CF hood. I see a difference in 1/4 times with the vents closed/open.

The CF hood is also slightly lighter than the stock one.

So no, not rice

I don't understand this comment. I'm trying to gather information on specific mods that can be done to this car. I've already decided on a Z, even if I had not, I would think I'd still be welcome to do my research.

If I were going this route, I'd probably want a cf hood that looked stock. Unless I can see some real weight savings, I don't think I'll be doing this.

I like the way c/f hoods look on black cars but other then that it just stands out to much. If you like it just get it who care what people think. and i doubt that it really makes your car run that much better time. for $500 or maybe more you can do some other things to your car.
