Default Reattaching foot rest

I took my foot rest off to access the kick panel and I can't get it back on properly. I don't think the long plastic extensions are supposed to directly screw on to the screws protruding from the body since there are no threads. I can tell there is some kind of latching mechanism but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I turn the head with a flat screwdriver and it will pop a little, get tight for a sec, and then get loose again. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I removed the foot rest to clean it. Of course you know that it can only go on one possible way: it cannot be reversed. The screws are unique. Tighten until snug but no more.

If you took of the entire foot rest like I did, you will need to replace the entire foot rest. I went to the dealer trying to buy just the latch thingy in the back of the foot rest but they dont sell it seperately. A new one costed me 45 bucks I believe. The new foot rest will snap into place.

AHH!! That is unbelievable. How do you take off the nut that holds on the kick plate (fuse cover) without taking off the foot rest??!!

When I took mine off, it felt loose like what you guys are experiencing but all I did was kick it down hard and it snapped in place.

I'm sure there is a large club of us that removed them and can't get them back on tight. I've got an idea but haven't had a chance to try it out.

I can't believe Nissan doesn't make the "nut" part of the foot rest available.

When putting mine back on (again) after cleaning I spun a little black plastic piece on the back and it seemed to fit tight when I put it on.....needless to say I was shocked, but try turning the piece on the back
