Default Installation of vertical doors

I am looking at getting vertical doors installed on the Z.
Is there anything I should know, or anything to watch out for?
I was told to make sure it pivets out, any other advice?
Thanks!

Background check the people that you are gonna pay to install it. Also, take pictures [video is better] of your door working [with the door and fender not conflicting]. Usually those are the first problems that happen.

I design the website for a body shop who are #1 when it comes to these installations.

http://www.berjamautocreations.com

Feel free to call and speak with Keith Mcclure. He is the owner, and gets calls like these ALL the time. He will be sure to help you out.

Edit: I designed that website like years ago, so it looks like crap. lol.

Wish there was a door kit out there similar to the Koenigsegg's doors.

If you haven't purchased the hinges yet, I'd get the LSD kit, then VDC as a second choice. Those two kits are almost identical with the exception of the LSD kit having the horizontal alignment pin that keeps people from beating up your interior door panels by going vertical before clearing the A-pillar.

Things to look for post install:

1. Make sure your hood/fender, fender/door, fender/bumper and door/rear-quarter clearances are even.
2. Make sure that the door doesn't stick out farther than the fender, or vice-versa
3. Make sure the windows contact the door seals appropriately (seals should be "pressed", but not too tightly by the windows)
4. Make sure that the 1/4" auto-drop of the window still seats the window properly into the seal.
5. Make sure that none of the hinge components are contacting the inside of the fender. After enough door cycles, this will dimple/crease the fender from the inside.
6. If possible, have them cut rather than roll the strength-rib on the inside of the fender. This minimizes the possibility of distorting the external surface of the fender.
7. Make sure the wire harness running into the door is not pulled too tight with the door in the up position (most kits include an extender harness, but mine didn't need it).

eh, I guess that's all I can think of. Hope it helps.

^Thanks for the advice, very helpful.
I am currently looking at the Vertical Doors Inc kit which includes 2) Gas Shocks, 2) VDC hinges and all mounting hardware.

That's the kit I had. I loved everything about it except the absence of the alignment pin, which the LSD kit has. I would really consider the LSD kit if you can...you'll thank yourself for it later because that alignment pin will save you the damage to your interior door panels that is almost inevitable with the Vertical Doors kit. The LSD quality is excellent too...I have seen the kit on a Z and it's top notch.

If you need any info or help with LSD Doors, please let me know. As stated earlier, it’s an incredible kit, offering lifetime hinge warranty, TUV crash certification and outstanding fit/finish. We have some pictures of the kit on a Z Roadster at our website:

http://www.gridesinc.com/Showroom.html#LSD

LSD Doors website is www.lsd-doors.com lots of good info there, even a crash test video.

Thanks,
Gary

if you're gonna do it, do it right the first time: LSD kit ALL THE WAY! Yes, I know, a little pricey but if you've handled a door with the LSD kit and handled one with the VDC, night and day difference. Spend that extra grand or so to get the one that will work right for your car. If you're doing nothing but shows, then VDC will work just fine, if it's a daily, then LSD is the only option (trust me, I've seen ALL kinds of kits in person for the past few years, this is the ONLY one that works like it's from the factory, the others seem too flimsy and doesnt feel like it's part of the car)

There's another company that makes really good Lambo doors, but I don't know them completely. Have you guys heard of GT Factory? Between LSD and GT Factory which would you guys choose?

GT Factory is a very bad choice for a daily driver. They're a truly vertical door vs. the butterfly style that LSD and VDC offer. They look amazing, but the install is permanent, and requires cutting and welding into the frame (vs the LSD/VDC kits that are bolt on and fully reversible). It also requires replacement of the interior door panels with fiberglass or CF panels, adding cost to both parts and labor. You can expect a good GTF install to run 4K or more, just for labor. IMO, they're for people with lots of money and who are serious about showing.

The nice thing about the LSD/VDC kits is that if you don't want to attract too much attention to yourself, you can open them horizontally like a regular door (they don't open quite as far as the stock hinge, but at 6'4", I have no trouble getting in or out with the doors up or down/out.) The GTF doors open about 3 or 4 inches then they go straight up.

I don't know why, but lately I keep on hesitating to get these installed.
I guess I fear that the body shop won't do a good job and I'll be left with doors that don't seal properly.

With the LSD Doors kit, as long as your installer does a good job of lining up your body panels and hinges, leaks or poor seals will not be an issue, the hinges are very adjustable allowing a perfect fit. I've had mine on for over a year now, had it out at ButtonWillow just a couple weeks ago with the windows up going 100 mph+ and heard very minimal wind noise, really same as stock. Can still run it through the wash and no water leaks either, the car wash guys have never seen my car before and they opened and closed the doors with out problems. If you or your installer ever had questions you could contact me for assistance, I’d be glad to help.
